Imperial at the West Coaster (1 Viewer)

I thought you might like to see some photos of my Imperial sets from this weekend's West Coaster Show at the Irvine (California) Marriott.

I though you might be interested in which Imperial sets I sold at the Show and what they sold for. In set numeric order: No. 5, Maori Contingent (photo backdrop box); No. 7, South Australian Scottish; No.7, South Australian Scottish (add-on set with six extra men); No. 8, Ekakatuna Mounted Rifles (photo backdrop box); No. 9, 3rd Battalion Victorian Infantry; No. 23, Black Watch; and No. 58, Naval Brigade. I sell the sets numbered 1 through 10 at $200 each, with a $25 discount if they bought a second set in that group. Set No. 23 went for $150 while No. 58 went for $125.

Thank you Drum. I certainly don't have my collection assessed or insured. The figures in the photos are not even part of my collection, but rather are extras that I take to the West Coaster to sell.

I thought you might also be interested in what Imperial sets have been selling for at previous West Coaster Shows.

At the 2011 West Coaster I sold four Imperial sets: No. 4, Dunedin Highland Rifles; No. 7, South Australian Scottish; No. 10a, South Australian Scottish Band; and No. 10b, South Australian Scottish. There all sold for $200 each except for set No. 7 which I sold to a friend for just $100.

In 2010, I sold just two sets: No. 1, Girl's Khaki Brigade and No. 2, Waikato Militia (photo backdrop) for $200 each.

In 2009, I sold ten sets: No. 6, Auckland Rifles ($200); No. 25, Mounted Black Watch Officer ($100); No. 50c, 4th Bengal Cavalry ($150); No. 51a, 5th Bengal Cavalry Officer ($75); No. 51c, 4th Bengal Cavalry Officer ($75); No. 51d, 30th Bengal Lancers Officer ($75); O&M x1, Carrier Crew ($150), and to one collector---O&M x3, O&M x4, and O&M x5 a package price of $500.

Although I have most of the Zulu War sets available, I have not sold one in four years. I was asking $125 per set. Other than the Boer War set I sold this year, I haven't sold any others.

Looks like I will have to get the Kerosene budgie up to the west coast next year. While its great to live on Imperial's back door step, sets that are out of production are hard to find in this neck of the woods.

I think you are probably referring to the Dunedin Highland Rifle Volunteers, set no. 5. Those fellas have dark blue tunics and green tartan kilts.

The South Australians are the guys in the white tunics and the glengarries.

Thank you, I hope they do, too.

Unfortunately, although I looked, I didn't see any Trophy sets at all. Of course, Steven Chong was an early arrival at the show and made a sweep of the rooms looking for them, too. My only hope seems to be if I can find some collector who is selling his collection which has some Trophy sets in it.

Hi Mark,

I hope you can make it next year; I would love to chat with you. Interestingly, I have been told by several Imperial collectors that I have the largest stock of Imperial sets available. I only saw one or two others at the show. A few years ago, at the Chicago Show, a collector had a fairly complete collection he was selling, but other than him, the pickings were pretty slim.

Bill Connolly, who owned the Toy Soldier Exchange Shop in Pasadena at one time, was instrumental in bringing Imperial to the USA. I was really disappointed when I saw his collection and discovered that he had never saved any for himself except for some Town & Around sets.

Hi Jeff,

Drum beat me to it. The third set of South Australian Scottish (No. 7) are in that same photo in the lower right corner wearing white helmets, red tunics, and green kilts. The white tunic band mentioned by Drum are sets No. 10a and 10b. Set No. 7 was the first Imperial set I ever bought. All the Imperial sets I was selling at the Show were extra sets and not from my collection.
