Hi Rob,

Thanks for the PM; for some reason (pop-up blocker?) I was unable to respond. I suspected that the wooden box would be an impossibility, but I was very pleased to hear thew news on the other items. I have hesitated phoning David since I can't figure out what time, or even what day, it would be in New Zealand. If you subscribe to Toy Soldier & Model Figure magazine, keep your eye out for issue 112 in September.

Hi Mike

No problem ,If you are phoning him remeber we are a day ahead of you guys
its monday morning here now.The shop is closed on mondays and tuesdays.
If you have any problems with contacting them let me know .
I,ll will be sure to keep an eye out for your article in september [looking forward to it].

regards Rob

Hi Rob,

Were those the original boxes for those sets or were they just non-labeled boxes? BTW, Craig now has your set on his web site.

Regards,

Hi Mike

They will be the new style boxes,i.e the boxes they use now [not the old maroon ones] but with the original set labels .

cheers Rob

Thanks Rob.

David only used the photo backdrop maroon boxes on the New Zealand unit sets for about two years (i.e., 1982 - 84). When he expanded his range beyond New Zealand, he switched to the standard, maroon boxes with stared backdrops for all sets including the original New Zealand sets.

Hi Mike

Thanks for the info ,I remeber seeing the boxes you are talking about as a kid in Kirckaldies [an upmarket wellington store] I,ve seen a few sets in that
style of box sold localy in the last few months also.

cheers Rob

Rob was their any mention of these new "1st Empire Civilians" being sent to London Bridge here in the U.S.?

Hi Rob,

The photo backdrops were only used for sets Nos. 1 thru 6 and No. 8. They are fairly uncommon here in the states. You should try to pick them up while you can. I am fortunate to have found, after years of searching, all these sets with the photo backdrops. Kircaldies was the department store that David designed set No. 14, the 65th Regt. of Foot, 1860, for to celebrate their 120th anniversary. Uniquely, set No. 14 has the silver foil-like end label for the store.

Best Regards,

It's great to hear that new sets for existing lines are still being created. The new British hussars are needed to go with the Lord Uxbridge figure. He's all by himself on a charging steed with no other cavalry to go with him.
