Well that answers the question of who got to it before me! I was set to get it as well and saw it was sold. Very very jealous of you my friend! I am really glad you found it and am sure it will be in good hands for a long time! So the hunt continues!

Congrats on the fantastic find.

Dave

Thanks Dave , I spoke to David from imperial the other week about it
and he mentioned the HS 1 was the bigger seller of the two which
may explain why this one doesnt show up too often .
I missed one a couple of years back on ebay as a buy it now , so
when the email came through from the old toy soldier home I jumped at
the chance :).
Good luck on the hunt , 40 soldiers in one box isnt something I think we
will see made to often these days.
cheers Rob

Superb set.

You can't beat large displays of Highlanders;)

Cheers

Martyn:)

Congratulations, Rob. I was also looking at buying it, but I hesitated briefly; I'm glad it went to a good home. :)

Dave

A real beauty, congrats on a good catch!

Best,
Paulo

Funny how many of us out here were eyeballing that set! As they say he who hesitates...

Still good for you now you just need a mob of Dervishes to set them up with.

Dave

Congrats on bringing 40 more expatriate troopers back home to NZ.

Such a beautiful set and, methinks, that was as good a price as if you had been buying it in 1988!

Well done and enjoy!

sets like this where available new from Imperial and trophy
etc.

Thanks Dave [ and Paulo of course ] its a cool set to finnaly land , Drum
I,m trying to remeber how much it cost in NZ , I think about 1100 kiwi ?
so its pretty similar to what I paid . It seems a bit funny to be buying
NZ made soldiers from the US but the first HS set I bought also came
from a US collector so I guess it is repatriating the troops ;).
Cheers Rob

Original price paid by my folks for the HS sets (purchased through London Bridge Toys) back when they were produced are as follows;

HS1 - Fall, 1989 - $589.00 US

HS2 - Fall, 1990 - $621.00 US

A job well done at any rate.

Cheers,
D

I just have bought recently a scarce version of HS set #2 as "Gordon" highlanders (only 10 sets have been made) and I plan to put my regular ("Camerons") set #2 (I have one extra) at eBay soon to see how much it will bring :)

Congrats on the rare find, Al! That is a neat set indeed.

As I have posted before, my Mom refers to these as the "disavowed Heirlooms" on account of David Cowe's story about their origin. As yet undisplayed in our collection, they are tainted in her eyes by their semi-authorized nature.

Someday, I will lobby successfully for a parade including both the Cameron AND Gordon Heirloom sets together... perhaps even a monumental "square" involving both regiments from the HS2 version.

A lad can dream.

;)

Hi Drum,
Yes, heard their story, but one way or another they are part of Imperial history now. Five #1 & #2 sets were sent to Toy Soldiers Gallery in upstate NY and another 5 pairs to a hobby shop in the South. My set has never been even unpacked, it came just the way it arrived from NZ :)
I liked your parade idea, lmk I might join you in this event.:)
Al

True enough, Al.

Where did you get the information about ten sets? I have not been able to pin anyone down as yet on how many sets of the Gordon version were made.

I have personally seen three of each of the Gordon sets come up for sale in the last 3-4 years... half of these I still know the location of.

Too bad these were not numbered like the original Cameron sets were.

Cheers,
D

Drum,
I got this info from the horse's mouth: the guy who ordered them originally, sorry no names :)
I guess they could not be numbered taking in consideration the situation of their "creation"....
Al

Drum:

For those of us less aware and less informed, could you recount David Cowe's story about the origins of the "disavowed Heirlooms," as your mother referred to them? I'm curious about the notion of being "semi-authorized." Thanks!

 I'm sure that there will be a good deal of interest when you list this set. Would you mind letting me - and the many others here - know a little in advance? I may have to take out another mortgage, sell my children into bondage, or - more realistically - curb the spending habits of my wife (which may be the biggest challenge), but I'm very interested...
