Imperial Japanese Navy Zero’ (1 Viewer)

Hello Romario,

Yes, I have all the K&C land and carrier based planes.
What dimensions do you want?

Height, Width and Length?

I'll get those and be back with you shortly.

These measurements make the Val undersized compared to the Zero. The Val was almost 4 feet longer than the Zero with a wingspan that was almost 8 feet wider. The Val was also taller by 2' 8". -- Al

I will re-measure again tomorrow, but I "believe" that these measurement are accurate, .... to maybe within a 1/16th or 1/8th inches.

Took these measurements and converted them to scale. The Zero is very close to being 1/30 on the nose with a small variance not worth noting. The Val, at these measurements, is quite another matter. The length works out to 1/32, the wingspan to 1/34, and the height to 1/40. Or this is as close as my rudimentary math could come. -- Al

Hi Al, Romario,

I re-measured the JN-042 (AICHI D341 VAL)

I was really close. Here is the 1st attempt and the remeasure with amore accurate technique

Wingtip-to-wingtip is approx --- 16 1/2" ... Same
Prop Tip to tail tip --- 12 5/8" ... 12 1/2"
Height to top of Canopy --- 3 3/4"............ 3 5/8"

Wing tip to fuselage .... approx 7 1/2"

Here are the specs on the D3A1

Specifications (D3A1)

D3A2 with Type 98 bomb, marked as an aircraft assigned to Akagi
General characteristics

Crew: Two (pilot and gunner)

Length: 10.2 m (33 ft 5 in)
Wingspan: 14.37 m (47 ft 2 in)
Height: 3.85 m (12 ft 8 in)

Wing area: 34.9 m² (375.6 ft²)
Empty weight: 2,408 kg (5,309 lb)
Max. takeoff weight: 3,650 kg (8,047 lb)
Powerplant: 1 × Mitsubishi Kinsei 44, 798 kW (1,070 hp)

Given those numbers, AL is spot on with the scales conversions

So .... ^&confuse

Larry, I own one of the KC Zeroes and always thought it looked correct next to my KC P-40B, but I admit I never bothered to measure them. I don't have nor have I seen a KC Val in person, so all looked ok in the photos that have been posted. Only when you posted the measurements of the models was my curiosity aroused, because the measurements were so close to each other and I knew the Val was a larger aircraft than the Zero. Thus, I converted the measurements and came up with said results. The Zero close to spot on, the Val very much less so. Have no idea why. I wouldn't have been surprised to find the Val 1/32 overall, but it even misses there on the wingspan and height. The Val sure looks good, but it is undersized when matched to the Zero. -- Al

When it comes to airplanes, Al is like E.F. Hutton and when Al talks...

Very flattering, Brad, but I am much better with WW1 aircraft than WW2 aircraft. I was just curious because of the measurements Larry posted, so I just converted them to scale. Without Larry's post, I would never have noticed the scale differences. As I noted, they all looked good to me in the photos I have seen. As I have said before, I know enough to get myself in trouble.:wink2::rolleyes2: -- Al

I don't wish to give the impression that I am unhappy with the K&C Zeros' or K&C Val or the P-40B (I measure that later!) in any way. {sm4}

K&C did a fantastic job on all the planes and I proudly display them.
I am not one who cares (to much) about accuracy or scale differences (within reason) between manufacturers or different series.

If Romario hadn't inquired I would have never looked.

My only want from K&C is to see the Bunker Hill TBM Avenger that they "teased us with" a while ago. ^&grin

Ditto that on the TBM Avenger . . .
