Here's some more Regal ACW. Notice the feet of the Zouaves out over the front of the base. The bases are of course squared. HMMMM Mike

I thought Imperial guns had a cast in bayonet almost as if the rifle ended in a silver point...It has been years since I had Imperial ACW, but some of these , do look off.........Michael..What are the chances these might be early Regal, till legally forced to change the copied figures.? mICHAEL

I too am curious about the idea of early Regal figures being more Imperial-like than those pictured in their catalog. I know there was bad blood between Imperial and Regal and there may have even been some litigation. I do not know.

That might explain a change in the Regal sculpts. Also, seller's insistence that these are "heavier, early Imperial" may well be a mistaken reference to Regal.

Note the odd downward facing position of the running soldiers and their strangely detached looking faces. Both of these traits seem similar to a few of the Regal offerings with square bases.

Finally, perhaps that would explain the very high sale price of that last grouping. If these are some discontinued early Regal sets then they may well be far more "rare" than any Imperial set in terms of pure numbers.

An interesting distraction, this.

Hi, guys,

I noticed the seller has put the four Confederates up for auction again, and it looks like he's taken our contacts as advice. This time he's noted that, though he thinks they're Imperial, they may be Regal. He also noted that he has no box for them. So, we're no closer to the answer than before.

Prost!

Wow, 89 bucks!

Well, we've noted before, either someone knows something, or knows nothing. And if you want something enough, you might be tempted to go for it, no matter the consequences.

I guess if they are Imperial, then they're an example of a stylistic difference, and maybe the price is a bargain. If they're Regal, wouldn't that make them relatively rare as well?

Always interesting to watch...

Prost!
