Well the snowfall in Colorado has motivated me to finally start my BoB dio. I wanted to make part of the dio a bridge crossing as those were supposedly 'choke-points' for the Germans during that offensive (according to my reading). I'm looking around for a suitable bridge for that period and geography and was hoping to get some guidance from the Board. I've considered the Figarti (a bit pricey-but nice) and looked at 'Form-Tech' (maybe not large enough).
I defer to the experts for suggestions and guidance...Thanks !

My partnet Nick from Battle Scene Productions sculpted the Figarti bridge, I saw the original sculpt, it is a very nice piece, and pretty big. Also it is a bit of a collectors item, as it is the first piece built by Nick that was ever put into production, rather than his one of a kind custom built stuff which is much more expensive. Alex

It looks like he created a brilliant piece. I'm just not sure I need one quite that nice for a basic bridge crossing somewhere in the Ardennnes.

But seriously, 1/30 scale buildings-accecories-civilians etc,, are very lacking.. I know some companies make that stuff, but the amount of items they have and variety are very lacking! Another frustrating aspect the hobby

Agreed. Seems like I'm hitting a 'zero' when it comes to bridge choices beyond what we've mentioned.

It's getting a bit difficult to find them now, but you could keep your eye open for the Conte bridge from the 'Longest Day' playset no. 1. That's a fantastic piece and I'd have thought big enough. Don't know if George (Warrior) has got any in (or knows a man who has!).

Any word as to if a center section to this bridge is still in the works??

Mike,
An interesting topic and as daruss mentions, 1/30th scale features are tough to find, although IMO, 1/32nd scale items work just as well.

The two Formtech bridges will not work, one is more suited for 25mm and the other is too short. As Simon mentions, the Conte bridge from The Longest Day playset is nice, but tough to find, I am fresh out here.... The Figarti bridge is a show stopper in my opinion, that one may work well for you, all finished and battle damaged, I love that one.

Matt at The Hobby Bunker has recently come out with a bridge that may also work for you, have a look on his site. I'd go with either his or Figartis, best of luck whatever you decide........

I know this is the K&C thread but I wish Conte would sell just the buildings from the playsets. For that matter it would be nice if they made more....

Thanks much guys. While this subject may be a bit off-topic, I figured I'd post it in the K&C section as most of my dio is planned with their figs, etc..I'll go back to Matt's site and take another look at what he's got and re-examine the Figarti bridge. I found a Conte bridge, but it's supposedly 32" long and my dio is planned for 36" wide x 48" long, it might be too dominant.

Just measured mine at 30" long (the bridge, that is ). It's a great piece. I'll try and get some pictures up to help visualize a bit later on.

Mike,

This is on two wood panels, each measuring 36" x 22", so only 4" off in length. Thought it might help to picture the size of the bridge on your terrain space.

Couldn't agree more, I come into these from time to time when I buy collections and they never last more than afew days. Two Novembers ago, I attended the Long Island toy soldier show and one of my customers had two tables were he was selling off his entire collection. He had a raftload of Conte pieces all piled up behind his table and I asked him what the deal was and he said they were for sale, he just didn't have room on his tables.

He had the Stamford bridge, the two Afghan buildings and walls, the FFL fort and sand dunes and all of the items from the D-Day sets, including the church and priory. I bought everything and put the stuff in my van as I had zero room on my tables; I took them to a show I did the next day down in Langhorne PA and sold everything at that one show, it was incredible the reaction customers had to those items.

The great Ken Osen sculpted all of those wonderful items; perhaps Ken when he's not swamped doing sculpts for Britains or making his own drop dead beautiful scenics can sculpt up some new buildings for you guys.

What do you say Ken?

I agree. I always wanted Conte's church & that graveyard add on. Not to mention, their D-day bunker system.

Thanks Simon, I appreciate you taking the time to post those pics. I think I'll grab the conte bridge and go from there.
Thanks again guys.

Does anybody have images of these particular items? Were they part of a playset? Just curious.

Dave,
Sorry, no pictures at this time, but these were part of the two playsets Conte did for the British battles in Afghanistan in the late 1800's. Both buildings had removable roofs and cut out windows, there were also two walls that came with it, one had an arch on it, the other was a rubbled out wall section and when you joined all four together, it made a nice compound that could be used for Afghanistan in the 1800's, today, North Africa for WWI and WWII, etc, etc.

Will try to dig up pictures........

Nice job Simon, those are two of the four, all are very sought after pieces.

Maybe someone at some point will do some early spring cleaning and clean out their closet/warehouse/home depot and offer them up to the forum members..................

Hi There!
Just got back from a meeting with Richard Walker from W. Britain in Chicago...boy was it cold! It was -18F on friday night and when I filled up my Jeep with gas, my credit card broke in two when I took it out of the gas pump scanner.
These are two of the four scenics I sculpted for the limited release of resin figure sets that were made when I worked for Conte Collectibles.
I stumbled across one of the test shots (pre production) of the building pictured in my shop a couple of weeks ago unpainted and without a roof casting. All four of the scenics made for these long out of production sets would be useful for folks collecting the K&C Crusaders or any of the WWII North African stuff.
It really is too bad that Richard Conte does not produce some of these buildings again to sell as stand alone products for the general collecting population.
I am sure that someone will provide something to fill this void sooner or later though.
Hope to see some of you at the West Coaster!
Ken
