Although you shouldn't buy kc for just investment purposes, i do feel the money i have spent here has been a lot safer than a 401k. Of course there has to be a buyer . But with the limited quantities and the quality i feel kc is a great option because there will always be collectors looking for quality

I have always told myself that I was in this hobby for collecting purposes only, however over the past couple of months I have found myself selling off a piece here and there just so I can afford the more expensive pieces that are now coming out.

Last week my father-in-law died at the early age of 56 and I really began to think to myself if my heart was into this hobby or should I sell my entire collection and invest my money in other things. Ever since my father-in-law died I just can't help but think that I should save every penny I have so my wife and children wil be set. Granted I will have a nice pension when a I retire and I am vested in stocks (which is just a laughing matter right now) but I just have a feeling of insecurity right now.

I really enjoy this hobby alot and everytime I tell myself to sell it all I find myself coming back to this forum and realizing how hard it would be for me to sell my collection off and stop collecting.

Very sorry for your loss Sahara.

I think most of us are feeling the pinch. I never got into this hobby as an investment, and i haven't spent that much on it, that it is going to make a world of difference in my financial future. I have about 12 vehicles, and that suits me fine. I have no need to buy everything that comes out, or sell an old tank, so I can get a new one. Every now and then, something is released that catches my eye, but for the most part, but I will not be buying any of these very expensive new releases, just because the detailing may be a notch better than a prior edition. The reality of it all, is that this can be a very expensive hobby if you let it get out of hand, and during tough economic times, how many of you can tell the wife that I just spent $300.00 on a model tank! To make my point, I never opted for one of those Gold edition HB tanks, because the cost of one of those tanks [$500.00], pays for my sons Ice Hockey tuition for 6 months. The best adevice I can give, is don't live beyond your means, whether it's the household or your hobby. Sahara, I'm very sorry to hear about your family member.

Sahara, vampire,,sorry to hear that,I find myself without thinking these days, more and more as to the disposition of my collections,,to help those left and avoid any difficulties with the disposition of it.

Your a very wise and well adjusted man SW ;)

I have always advocated using ones collection to finance future buys.

Got nothing but grief for that point of view.

I still say, family comes first, and a smart collector can after a time have

his collection finance his new purchases.

Why he's not a collector!

He's an investor.....thats what he is!

Funny thats not what the Miami Herald said when they wrote an article on

my......stuff:D

Look - Buy what you want (and can afford), Collect what you want, and sell the stuff when you are bored with it or you want to buy something else with the profit. It's your collection - do what you want with it.

Collector - Investor - Dealer - blah, blah, blah....

Who cares what little box someone tries to put you in - sometimes this forum can be worse than Washington Politics ;) - the only person you have to answer to is yourself and the occasional questioning from the significant other !

Toy Soldiers are not GOLD BARS and certainly not currency - they are wonderful collector items which sometimes - some people want and will pay $$ for their collections.

I buy - I sell and I don't care what anyone else thinks - I just like having fun and relaxing & enjoying these guys.

So buy your figures - Build your dioramas - What the heck, Sell Them if you want. The only person who should worry about your collection is .... what for it ....... YOURSELF !

So go have fun.

Ronn!

Where have you been? I haven't seen you around much lately!

Is it true they put a For Sale sign on the White House?

I also heard they were re-naming Congress:

"The Pepsi Carbonated Capitol Orifice"

What say you.......Mr Washing-tone insider?:D

Probably not a safe indulgence since I have never been one to sell away most of the things I collect. When you are a collector though, it is kind of in your blood. I have collected so many things in my lifetime. Toy soldiers have been the longest lasting passion. I am happy with the way I have pursued this hobby though (unlike a couple of others I practically threw away money on) because I tend to buy them in spurts. I can go months and months without buying soldiers and then buy 10 sets in a month.

There is no doubt that the state of the economy has affected my buying, right at a time when I was getting more heavily into the hobby than ever before. Just bought a new house in January too, which was a big reason actually for getting back into it because I had much more space and bought a new large display case.

I am cutting my expenses now, and I am trying to spread out the toy soldier purchases. I do like the fact that you can resell these items for at least close to what was paid and sometimes much more. Hopefully that continues. I might need to sell off a few collections for retirement!!

Njja

Been on the road with work and this week is the largest Military show in the US - it is held in Washington, DC. So lots of clients in town. Little time for forum talk - but trying to check in every now and then.

How are things with you ?

OK!

I had to give up the lawn mowing business (gas shortage here in Georgia)

Gave up driving for Domino's same reason......I hated to lose that car!

Then I lost my street sign painting Gig!:(

Though about a paper route.....but my bike has two flat tires.

But help is on the way! Its almost the holiday season, and I have a

thriving business stringing all the lights on the refrigerators on most of the

neighbors front porches!:D

I must admit I got kind of famous when I did Sonny Perdue's you know at

the governors mansion down in Buckhead.

Don't let one of those "Tanks" accidently follow you home like last year!:D
