Went to the movies tonight and saw new Indiana Jones movie.I thought it was good but not great.Harrison Ford did excellent job but it still looks kinda funny seeing someone that age playing an action hero. That should be left to the guys in their 30's-40's.For our Australian friends I saw a preview of a movie titled AUSTRALIA with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman as the leads. It seems to be set during WWII.

Australia has been in the pipeline for a while.

I've seen the trailers myself and hope it will be a success. It hasn't been released yet here in Oz.

Matter of opinion that, I certainly haven't given up on being an action hero, yet.;):D

I like the idea of Indy in his later years, but I was not impressed with the movie. Weak plot and weaker villains. I guess the Russians of the 50,s just can't compare with good old fashion Nazis.

i took my sons to see the indiana jones movie they loved it but it was a bit weak after we went staight to woolworths to buy indiana lego for them my wallet is a bit thin now

I share the same disappointment - the movie had a weak script and could have dealt with a long list of real archeology wonders - instead of Space Men with Magnetic skulls.

The script was weak with the plot being weaker - just didnt have the same snap as 1 & 3 - I think we all have tried to forget #2 ;)

Harrison Ford is a great actor - but, without a quality script - you cant blame him.
:)

At least it gave The History Channel something to chew on for a while. They had their own special on crystal skulls thrown together in time for the movie's premiere. Nothing more historical than crystal skulls, unless maybe it's UFOs. I love the UFO specials on THC, much better than dry subjects like the World Wars, the American Civil War, the War for Independence, Ancient Rome and Greece, or histories of Britain, or other great civilizations around the world.

Prost!

I love the UFO experts on these shows. There is no proof of spacecraft from other worlds (as far as the general public knows)but these guys are experts.

I haven't seen it yet but I just rented the 2nd National Treasure. I think this is sorta like the modern day Indiana Jones. Anyone else agree with this comparison?

When no one has any information, anyone can be an expert.;):D

Well in terms of action, pace and creative following obscure clues to some ancient treasure, yes I would have to agree. I do very much enjoy both and I have the original 3 IJ movies and the first NT one so far. I do think Harrison's character is a lot tougher than Nick's. Overall I think Sahara is a better match to IJ than the NT series. I am a big "Dirk Pitt" fan and I thought Matthew was a very great choice for Pitt. I was looking forward to a movies series but I think Cussler's squabbling (and law suit) with the studio has just about killed that idea, at least with Matthew McConaughey. I think that is a real pity; if Cussler really cared for his fans, he would find a compromise that worked but that doesn’t seem likely, sadly.

I loved the flick to the ends of the Earth- my wife just couldn't get over how old Harrison Ford looked but hey, I thought he was superb.

One thing I have noticed and it is a bit troubling- I saw the first Indy when I was 9 or 10, maybe younger. I was able to immediately recognize the nazis as the bad guys. My 12 year old son and his 12 year old friend- I am not so sure the "Evil" Russians were as transparent as the AK was back when I was a kid. I am completely convinced that the Red Scare and the Cold War was completely missed these kids these day (boy, I sound old!!) I thought the Red Scare and McCarthyism was a great setting but they had no clue what DoomTown was or anything like that- just went over their heads- very very unfortunately.

Top 5 dumbest things in Indy 4:
-Surviving an atomic bomb and bouncing fridge with barely a scratch
-Vine swinging Jungle Boy scene
-Going over 3 giant waterfalls with no scratch at all
-Natives who live in walls their entire life, waiting for someone to pass by
-The alien at the end. The skeletons were kind of cool, but then they ruined it by showing a bad CGI flesh-and-blood version

I think Indy 4 was honestly written by Lucas/Spielberg as a comedy/parody of the other movies. It's impossible to take the movie seriously while watching it.

You guys should see Prince Caspian. WAY better movie, and aside from the mythological creatures, it's a fairly realistic medieval war movie too, at least in terms of the weapons, physics and special effects. I can't believe it only got a PG rating considering the hundreds of people that get killed in it in all manner of ways. Plus some good morals in it too, not all of them exclusively Christian.

Well I watched Tarantino's Deathproof on Sunday evening and quite enjoyed it. Maybe they should have got Kurt Russel to play Indiana Jones

I have always like Russel although he has starred in some really bizzare movies from time to time. I think he could pull off a role like that well enough.

I heard an interview with Speilberg on IJ4 the other day and he certainly gave the impression he was intending to follow the foot steps of the first three. Let's face it, all the them require some serious suspension of disbelief and include a healthy dose of myth. There are not meant to be taken as reality, never were.

The new one takes the cake for being over the top though. Raiders of the Lost Ark was also a homage to the 1930 serials but it was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. Don't think that will be happening with Crystal Skulls.

I don't disagree. For me, the ranking in order of preference would be the first, the third, the second and then the fourth. It was still fun though.;):D

Thank God! At least I'm not the only one who ended up buying Indy Legoes. My 9 year old daughter has become enamoured with Indian Jones:eek:. She had to have the lego motorcycyle set from Last Crusade and the Truck set from Raiders. She has been reenacting the scene where the dude gets run over after falling off the grill of the truck:D, along with the whole motorcycle jousting thing from LC:rolleyes:. I've got to stop letting her play with my soldiers:D;):).

Ha - I've got those two Lego sets as well. Yes, I collect a few Lego sets when they're cool - just a different type of toy soldier after all.;)

My favourite ordering would be 1st, 3rd, 4th then 2nd. Crystal Skulls was still better than Temple of Doom - which isn't saying much for either.

Generally by the time a movie gets round to number III almost all the good ideas have been used up and it comes across as a bit hackneyed. Look at Shrek. Number 1 was good, number ii was brilliant and number iii well that was really week
