Guys...

Just programmed this in on tonight on CBS Drama an adaptation of Speer's autobiography. A two part drama that I have not seen so, thought I would see what it was like as the book was interesting
Anyone seen this and can offer a view of if its good or bad??

I saw it back in high school ('81 or '82) in German class, I recall that it was a good enough drama, if it's the same version. Rutger Hauer played Speer, Blythe Danner played his wife, I forget who played Hitler--was it Derek Jacobi?

I've also read his memoir. What he said has to be taken with a grain of salt, of course, but it's an interesting look into the mind of a so-called "decent German", a typical upper-middle class German, such as Speer was.

Prost!

Brad...

Thank you for that I did think it might be an older version as the book is qiute old. I think Speer was a genious how he managed to become the acceptable figure of the third reich. I did pay lip service to many of his claims including his attempt to gas the fuehrer and some of the private conversations he stated he had with Him but, picking through that it was a interesting addition to the understanding of the reich at that time.

Looking forward to the programme tonight now.

Never saw the movie but read his fascinating book as well as the ones critical of him. I think one was by a Gitta Serney. Not sure if that's the correct name. Age :)

She certainly had her run-in's with Speer probably why her book was called Albert Speer his battle with truth.

Another good book by Gitta Serney was The German Trauma: Experiences and reflections 1938-2001

Hadn't heard of the second one. Will have to take a look for it.
