I feel pretty silly having to ask this question as I have been buying off eBay for 14 years. For the first time I have to make an insurance claim on an item which was seriously damaged in transit.

Can any of my fellow Treefrogers tell me how I go about lodging an insurance claim with eBay?

Thanking you in anticipation.

Bob...

you mentioned your "buying history" in your post...
so I'm guessing...in this case...you are the buyer...

not sure how the Australian postal service works...
but in the US...this can be done on the USPS website...
or whatever carrier was used...

but it would usually be initiated by the "seller" though...not the buyer...
whoever sent it...would have purchased the insurance...if any exists...

Not to be a smart aleck, but have you looked on eBay for instructions on how to do this? Right on the front page, there are links to more info, and to their customer service.

First, take pictures. Let the seller know that it arrived damaged and attached the pictures.
See how they want to handle this. If you got this item from someone in the US, you can report it as damaged. If it was truly damaged in transit and the seller used the Ebay International shipping, you can get reimbursed by Ebay and the seller will not be out any money either. Be patient though, it takes a couple of weeks.
Not sure how to go about it if you got it from an Australian seller.

I had this happen with a Canadian customer. It was very obvious from his pictures that the box had been torn open and the item thrown around.
Hope this helps.
