Terrible to contemplate but good to check on coverage regarding "collections" as the companies call it,my home was destroyed in the great hurricane of 92,andrew,I saved the most valuable pieces hurredly jammed into and wrapped in a towell filled suitcase. the ultimate nightmare being as a disaster approaches having to look around the collection room thinking "what do I take" ,bad enough later standing where the collection was with the room no longer there, all scale items gone, books and bound magazines turned into huge wet blocks of sludge ,a model railroad completly gone, and my ex neighbors the looters everywhere, tho kept at a distance by armed homeowners when possible ,a complete lack of law enforcement, military etc for up to ten days.
Dealing with one of the top two insurance companies and their "deluxe" homeowners policy, being told "collections and paper" were maxed at $500.oo doubled the blow. Those that have never experienced a disaster usually are the first to say" its only things etc" could use a brief lesson in their own words. A vintage car needing a year of damage reapair adds another layer, my only advice being ,review the coverage you have and make a decision on the event of the ultimate nightmare for the collector, then check into the specialized coverage with a stated value, dealing with a rogue adjuster again compunds the loss.
