Insuring a collection (1 Viewer)

Hi.
Probably a question for collectors in the UK? Looking at my collection the other day, a thought sprang to mind which I have been mulling over ever since. After collecting for nearly six years I have a fairly large toy soldier collection. Is it time to take out 'specialist' insurance? Don't know if this should just be revisiting the contents insurance limit that I already have, or taking out some kind of secondary policy. Any tips/experience anybody?

You can find specialist insurers but, I had some quotes that were ridiculously high and the policy was not really good. I spoke with my local building society and they sorted out a really good policy tailored to my requirements and, at a reasonable price

It may be worth talking to one of the advisors about the best way forward before looking at some of the so called toy soldier insurers

Hi,

I suspect that the insurance will be divided up into roughly three broad areas as follows:

1. Value of the item - declared value of item - this is what owner wants to insure - specialist insurers will take into account the age, make and rarity of pieces
2. Fragility (likelihood of damage regardless of location eg pottery, yellowing paper) - doesnt quite apply to toy soldiers
3. Location where the item is kept - earthquake prone zone generally drives all insurance upwards, moist humid conditions encourages deterioration etc
