Hi All,
Over the years the forum has had thousands of diorama/collection images uploaded from members and it can be difficult at times to sort through them to find your favorite brands. The moderation council brought a suggestion to me to add diorama subcategories within certain manufacturer forums where you could post images specifically of those pieces, separate from the general discussion of the brand. We already have a general diorama forum--this would just help people find photos of their favorite brands more easily.
If you like it, which areas would you like to see dio subcategories added to? If you don't think it's necessary, tell us your reasons why as well.
We look forward to hearing your feedback on this idea.
Best regards,

I quite like the way that dio's are blended into the threads as not only enjoyable images but, also, a discussion point in their own right. Many posters mix brands in diorama's so, it would be rather difficult to segregate those from specifice single brands. would you need individual dio sections then on top of that a mixed dio thread??

Its not a hard job to find things should one wish to so, I guess its fine as it is IMO

I would agree with Mitch, unless I misunderstood the intent of the possible restructuring.

Although I am one of the principal sculptors for W. Britain and the owner of Hudson & Allen Studio, when I post images of dioramas that I build I use whatever product or 'brand' figures or vehicles that work on the diorama that I have built. Sometimes it is a combination of products from several companies. This has included W. Britain, Conte, Troiani, Ertle, ONWTC, 1st Legion, Jenkins designs, Collectors showcase , K&C and some others.

I think the art of the diorama is meant to be taken as a whole just as the sets, props and actors might recreate a time and place in a movie.

To a degree, this might mean that at this time almost all true dioramas require something beyond what any one manufacture can offer. Most of the pre decorated collectibles offered today do not include every element that is needed to create a diorama. It might be a misrepresentation to put these dioramas into any one strict brand category.

The art of the diorama might be the very thing that will help bring about standards for this industry. I find it far more common for collectors that are interested in building displays to ask each other if this product or that can be used together. Adherence to known scales the way it is done for model aircraft, vehicles, ships and railroad models is long overdue.

I also believe it would be a dis service to collectors and manufacturers alike to sub-categorize to the point that it is easier to just click on the brand that you already know, rather than browsing the various categories. I think this forum and others in the hobby industry are a great place for collectors to view the huge number of offerings available today and also a great place for new companies to get their products in front of their audience.

My apologies to all for getting a bit off track!
All the Best,
Ken Osen

I go along with both Mitch and Ken I see no reason for a Specific Diorama Sub-Section of Manufacture Forums having posted well over 5,000 photo dioramas throughout the forum featuring products from various manufactures as well as items I've built in creating and photographing them and replying when ask the question where did you get this or that as others have done when ask.....Joe

I vote to leave it the way it is. This issue came up when I was the only moderator and when I suggested something along the lines suggested by Shannon, it wasn't well received, to say the least.

I prefer the way it is now to be honest. I think this way we get to share dio's / collection with more of our friends and a wider audience. The scenes also help to create a good atmosphere with lots of people, dio and non dio folk alike.

Hi guys,
Just a clarification, the general diorama forum wouldn't go away and would always be an option when choosing where to post your pictures (and definitely be where mixed product dios would go). The plan would be to add dio subforums in only 2 or 3 larger volume manufacturer forums such as Britains & King & Country just to help group them together for those who like to focus on specific manufacturers.
Keep your feedback coming!

Shannon in MHO that would end up showing favoritism to selected manuafactures. If your doing it for one it should be done for all and I still feel it should be left as is.......Lt. Joe

I also agree with Joe and as I previously mentioned...

There are more companies out there than just the larger ones and I am sure we will always see new ones come and go. I think the collectors are more likely to be exposed to products that are new to them when viewing dioramas than anywhere else. I think Joe's and UK Reb's great work are perfect examples of this.

I agree

Have to agree that it seems a lot of thought and effort for what really is not a problem and, agree that if its being done for a ''few'' it should be done for all. I can't imagine a person who likes specific manufacturers not being impressed by a dio showing other manufacturers products.

I don't think it's really necessary, either. I agree with Mitch's position.

Prost!
