Hello all,

I am new to the world of toy soldiers and K&C. I actually looked into it a couple of years ago, and then life intervened and it fell off my radar. I was privileged enough to make a trip to Normandy this past summer and while afterward looking for related things, remembered my past thoughts and took the plunge!

I actually have a couple of questions as well:
1) What K&C Germans would be accurate for a D-Day diorama (either beach or airborne).
2) Will anyone be attending the Atlanta show and what should I expect there?

Thank you all for allowing me into your community.

Welcome Youngster. As far as your question about the Germans, I suspect that many of the WSS sets would suffice, as I know that several SS Panzer divisions were involved in the Normandy Campaign (although I doubt many were on the beaches themselves). I think there is a thread on the Atlanta show indicating that several K&C dealers will be there.

Hi youngster and welcome to the forum.I too visited Normandy last summer and what an experience it was.I took in all the beaches (except Utah)Point Du Hoc,Pegasus Bridge and Merville Battery.Countless museums and many pillboxes and gun emplacements.(i have a very understanding wife!;))

What were your highlights of your trip, for me i would say Pegasus bridge and Omaha beach, although it was all great.I was also happily shocked and amazed to look over a farmers fence to be confronted by an 88mm gun looking right back at me!.

On the figure side of things, watch this space, who knows whats coming this summer!:)

Hi Youngster, normandy is indeed a nice place to visit... even the oysters and lobsters have a taste of freedom.

My favorit place is Saint-Mère-L'église.

If you go back to France and want to see more German sites you have to go to Nord-Pas-de-Calais. There you can find bunkers who used to have cannons to shoot all the way to England. There is also a Cannon-Train-Wagon and you can visit V1 and V2 lauch sites and production bunkers.

K&C is the right choice to start collecting for your D-day diorama.
You can also check-out the JG miniatures, they have nice tiles for creating the D-day beach

Battle of the Bulge from Bastogne/Belgium is also a nice range that you can collect, personally it is one of my favorites.

K&C has produced very few sets that work for D-Day itself. Two that are still in production (not retired, so therefore available at original retail price) that I can think of are WS096 and WS097 in K&C's Waffen SS range, even though they are in fact not SS (K&C groups a lot of different stuff under this one range). This single figure and motorcycle may not fit your idea of "action" figures through. You could also get away with using a couple of sets from K&C's new Fallschirmjager (German paratrooper) range, in particular FJ009 on the bike, to fight your US airborne.

SS units were involved within a few days of the landing, and this broadens your choices to sets like: WS050, WS051, WS062, WS074, WS075, WS099 and WS102.

Thanks for all your replies. I was only able to visit the American sites on this visit. One day was Utah and the airborne zones - La Fiere would probably be my favorite from that day. The second day was Omaha, Pointe du Hoc, and the American Cemetary. Dog Green and the German WN at the other end of the beach near where Monteith won his MOH were probably the highlights, although the cemetary is also very moving.

Stayed in Bayeux, which was just a great town. Would love to get back and see some of the British and Canadian sites as well!

Actually, I have picked up a few Bulge pieces. It's a great line and you can still get them at retail!
