Does anyone know where I might obtain a 54mm figure of a irish guard handler with the wolfhound mascot? Additionally, what happened to Fort Ducal?

Hi & welcome to the forum, the figure you are after was in a set commisioned by the Guards Toy Soldier Museum, which is run by Ken from MKL models. They did have lots of spares & loose figures from that set last time I was there so your best bet would be to phone or email MKL models and ask Ken if he can help?

I will dig the set out tomorrow & take some photos for you :) it is a nice little set one of the better limited editions they released over the years, there's also a companion set with the pipes & drums that's worth getting!

Thanks for the suggestion about MKL. I had sent an email to Ken earlier in the afternoon but given the time difference, I had not yet received an answer. With the info you folks gave me, I ordered the figure so thanks for the help.

Yes Scott that looks like the right figure to me! Im not sure why its listed under the S&S section of there website tho? Lol
FormerDoc I'm glad we was able to help you with finding what you was after, I hope you post some photos of your collection.

Very nice collection you got there of Irish Guards, are they all Britains you have repainted? Or is it made up from different makes?

The band began with a purchase in Canada about 40+years ago. I added figures purchased from Fort Ducal as well as from the Guards Museum Shop in London, both by mail and in person. I painted the blue plumes on the bearskins and repainted the pipers to look more like the Irish Guards. My wife and I attended the tour of the Irish Guards last year and since we stayed in the same hotel, enjoyed chatting with many of them. We were at the Colonel's review this June. Back in the kinder, more gentle days of the early eightys, the handler allowed me to pet the Mascot, who I think was Connor. I have a short clip of the current mascot on YouTube, at the very end http://youtu.be/Qn7ahSQC6v4. Having nothing to do with the Irish Guards, I have become friends with Dave Rennie who was a drum major with the Scots Guards and now is the drum major of the Canadian Ceremonial Guard. I have a number of videos on YouTube under the formerdoc name

great video thank you for sharing it, im going to post some photos of my Britains Irish Guards down in he Britains Glossy section if you fancy taking a look?

Craig

as an interesting side note the mascot has three different coats. Red for parade with the regiment in tunic order, grey for greatcoat order and DPM for combat dress. Trooper
