Picked this up for $40 in a local diecast store, was told it was made by BBtoy, I liked the quality of the piece, and was surprised at the detail (for $40 :D). So I bought it as a nice piece for my american bulge figures. However when I looked at Bill Sager site it looks like it is an old King and Country piece:D Am I right?

Sure enough! DD-09. It came with two Gi`s. One sitting with a rifle and one standing with a grease gun. Also 2-30 cal mg`s.

It would sell much more if it had the figures. Yupe it is king & country.

I'll give ya $45 for it :D......and I'll even pay for the shipping

Are the gun mounts broken?

The gun mounts are fine, I tried out the two smaller guns from the amtrak and they sit in fine. Its a really nice piece

This has been sitting in that shop since I've been going in there:eek:, he rearranged one of the display cabinets and happened to have the K&C aussie's (the only K&C set in a shop of planes and diecast models of every size, ) positioned beside it, so I only figured then it was the right scale to go with K&C.
The guy in the shop was looking for 'BBtoys" box for it , but couldn't find one so I told him to just throw it into a plastic bag as it didn't look too fragile:eek:. I spent a half hour trying to find bbtoys on the net to see if they made anymore like this one :D:D but didn't find anything and only then thought it might be K&C . There is no king and country marking on the bottom of it. Maybe I should go back and ask him to look for a King & Country box..the figures and guns just might be in there:D:D

That's a great find. The bottom should read King & Country US Army 1999 its small compared to the size of the stamp on the latest vehicles.

Always nice to find a nice old piece at a great price!

Nice job.

Had a look underneath but no K&C markings, (luckily for me it must have fallen off at some stage:D)

Doesn't look like it fell off. Does anyone have one they can check? Is the

date part of the mold, or an attached plate?

Other choices are:

1. Factory nock off, some factories have been known to produce item after

hours for unauthorized private sales.

2. Could be a proto type which would be interesting!

Either way a little investigation will only lead to a nice providence for your

find! Which will make it an even more enjoyable piece!:)

I can remember a seller on ebay about a year ago had 3 or 4 pieces which looked the spitting image of some of the early K&C stuff, including halftrack, Sherman, Jeep and possibly another. Like this one, there were no markings underneath, and the seller wrote up that they weren't K&C. I can't remember if he mentioned a manufacturer.

I think they went reasonably cheaply, if memory served me correctly, but I can't remeber much more than that.

K&C or not! It´s a great looking vehicle. And as long you are happy with it, that´s what matters! :) - Great buy!

I envy you guys! I have a feeling, that i´m the only one in Denmark, who collects K&C! :( - there is nowhere i can get such "golden" items!

About 3-4 years ago, Ron Daniels of Maitland Toy Soldiers, one of the Canadian K&C dealers and a really nice gentleman, told me that an airline pilot came into his shop with several of the early WSS and DD polystone vehicles without figures, K&C markings, or K&C boxes. The pilot told him that he bought them in a flea market in China for just a couple of dollars. Ron believed that some of the factory workers were making a few extra castings, painting and selling them locally to augment their income. This M3 might be one of those.

The quality of the polystone castings has certainly improved since those old first runs, too, hasn't it?

Prost!

Brad:

There is a popular rumor.....(that I'm spreading:)) that some of these early

castings were made from old pancake batter that Andy had left lying around

if you look really closely......like with X-Ray gogs.....you can see some of the

blueberrys:D

I had one of those. Bought it for $150 and sold it for $450 on e-bay. It came with 2 figures and 2 30 mgs on both sides of the vehicle. The KC nameplate must have fallen off. If i could recall right, the nameplate was glued on underneath.

$40 was a bargain! But without the nameplate, professional collectors may not add $$ value to it.

If your intention is for your personal collection, then my friend, you have something that has a historical value.
Good catch!

Interesting find.Looking at mine I notice the number's on the side of the engine hood to be different than the one shown here.Under USA mine show 403653S.Also noted that the picture with the front end of the vehicle pointing towards the left has different items in the rack.Mine shows two gas cans towards the front and a rolled tarp at the back. The picture posted looks like a wooden trunk is in the rack.
The plaque on the bottom looks to be glued on and says
King & Country
US ARMY
1999
I realize that sometimes the sculptors did do some different things. Not saying yours is a fake at all.
