Italeri Mamalukes (2 Viewers)

Thanks for the kind words.

They were not easy to work with - the plastic is so hard. When I cut it with snips it broke and pinged off around the room! had to resort to sawing with a Dremel. That said they really are nice figures. I am really looking forward to doing the next batch, with a view to taking them back to the true Egyptians. They will be even more colourful and have different weapons.

Mike, they turned out great! {bravo}}

I admire your that you took some nice figures and made them your own. ^&grin

Thanks Chuck.

And I found out a great deal about the originals along the way... knew almost nothing about them - they were really good fighters.

Mike, I not up to date on my Napeoleanic War history, but I seem to recall that he was so impressed with the Mamalukes that he incorporated then into his army.

This is true Skeeterbuck. Indeed the figures I painted represent the unit of Mamalukes as it was in the Grande Armee. What I intend doing with them next is another group who will be more as they were in Egypt fighting the French - more conversions with lances, javelins and muskets, and on different horses as the saddlery and cloths were individual to the rider. Then the whole unit will be ready to do dual service in my Ottoman army to fight the Austrians and Russians.

I will also add a trumpeter to the later group in the dark blue chasseur-style uniform with a bicorne which, as Frenchmen, they wore, just for something a little different!
