Well guys I just noticed these on the Bay http://toys.shop.ebay.com/Toy-Soldi...on&_catref=1&_fln=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282eek: Looks like someone is testing the waters on sold out releases from First Legion . The prices asked are not that bad IMO , These are impossible to find ......most of the collectors who have em are not interested in selling. It will be interesting to see what's gonna happen as First Legion start selling out of some of the earlier releases . I have seen a Bavarian standard bearer sell for over $100.00 . Get em while you can ;) I know it can be painful playing catch up . All the best Gebhard

No doubt Vezzolf will be watching with great interest.

If the secondary FL market does develop he can no doubt put it down to the FL retired sales cunning plan of Matt as he does with the other well known brand.

Regards
Brett

Not really sure what you mean here. I am thinking of getting a few figures myself. Can you explain what you mean here. Simmo.

Verzoff is totally anti speculation/anti Ebay. He believes ( as per his numerous posts )that speculation is a ploy by K/C to artificially inflate the worth of the secondary market to encourage collectors buying multiples of their stuff. The thought here is whether Verzoff will complain just as loudly at this mfg.'s forum.:).Michael

It should be interesting to watch unfold. A secondary market was bound to happen eventually.

I am watching....This will not likely be a "profitable" pattern.... I believe that most attempts by "speculators" to generate profits on FL products in secondary sales will fail.....Given the retail prices and quality of First Legion Products it is highly doubtful that most First Legion Collectors will follow the habits of some K/C "collectors??" in regards to secondary markets....It does not appear that First Legion is at all interested in stimulating sales with a "retired products strategy"...And it does not appear to be a necessary strategy for a company like First Legion in order to have good sales of "High Quality Products"...Also with the current economic climate and the "meltdown" of seconday market sales; TS speculation has become a thing of the past for all manufacturers products

Yes FL items are a subscribed Ebay search for me and I have noticed that as well. Fortunately, I have been able to grab the things I really want before they were gone because, as you note, it would be painful to find them after that. I would have liked the now retired French 12 pounder set but had too many competiting priorities at the time and I don't want it enough to chase it. I almost buggered up with the British Guards but managed to find the additional extras I wanted before they were totally gone. Otherwise, I am pretty content with what I have so far. Thus I will continue to keep my focus on my particular must haves and get them early.

That was one of the first sets of FL that I got shortly before they sold out and I still really like it (even if the quality is no longer up to Gebhards standards :D ) I doubt that mine will show up on the secondary market as long as I have TS as a hobby - which has lasted my entire life.

Terry ,
I don't remember ever saying that the now retired French 12 pounder was no longer up to my standards as it was and is one of my Favorite pieces ;) but I do remember saying that First Legion have IMO made significant improvements with each sequential release since then culminating with the IMO best in class so far Beautiful Russian 12lb Foot Artillery Set . I can't wait to see what they could do at the current level with a Prussian or Bavarian Artillery set among others :):) Regards Gebhard

Hi Guys ,
I received this email from the ebay seller i had linked to earlier , He said it would be okay If I shared it with fellow collectors . I'm withholding his name as I said i would ;)

" Hi Geb, was able to see your post about FL on the secondary market. I just want to let you know that I sold NAP0003 for 85,00$ CDN which was more than 87,00$ US two days ago. Not bad for a company who will be in its third year only. And yes, I sold one Bavarian flagbearer 99,00$ last year and it was a mistake. Doing it actually, I would ask 149,00$ for that figure.

All the best,
******
I would think that our First Legion collections are going to be worth a good chunk down the road not that it matters to me as I'm never selling , I just hope I never have to pick up something i miss . I recently found out that I had somehow missed one of the now sold out British guards figures . I can tell you it was not easy finding one , thank GOD I found an old friend who is moving out of Napoleonics and nice enough to part with it . Happy collecting Gebhard

Your children should appreciate the appreciation ;)

Hello Spitfrnd,
I am the current discussion on this subject and I thought if still interested in French artillery 12 pounds visited this link:
http://stores.ebay.fr/La-Caverne-de...27600016&_sid=965877836&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322
a seller in France for 450 € (which is more or less costs $ 590 with shipping buy it now !!!!!!) this price is double the original selling price catalog FL !!!!!!:eek::eek:

It apears most of those items did not sell , being a collector I cant say I will be sorry to see any delay in a secoundary market developing.
If everything that retires shoots up straight away in price speculators come
into play and you find yourself missing out more often on anything that retires or is ltd .

very true , I'm with you ;) The longer we can keep guys who buy up items for resale to make a couple of bucks away the better I'm not a fan of speculators . Nothing wrong with selling off your collection if your interest change IMO , I Have picked up a few FL pieces over the years from guys who got into something else . Regards Gebhard

Thanks mate but as I said, it is not something I will chase. I had my chance to get one below retail but the timing just didn't work out.

I have all FL artillery sets and they are all beautiful. However the french one shows 'its age'. If I was in my shoes (which I am) and if I had not that set, I wouldn't pay more than retail for it. So many other FL sets I want.

It's like the brit guards... I don't have all of them.. but I don't care.. there are some marvelous highlanders to come !

Cheers,

Alex

That there are Alex and Green Jackets too:p but just to be clear, the British Guards do not show their age.

Simmo,
Michael answered your question pretty well.

I noted Vezzolfs comment :

"in regards to secondary markets....It does not appear that First Legion is at all interested in stimulating sales with a "retired products strategy"..."

It is obviously just my opinion but the secondary market and any "retired products strategy" is beyond the control of any manufacturer. Obviously there comes a point when an item sells out. What happens after that can not be controlled by any manufacturer or dealer and depends upon the demand by collectors. Vezzolf seems to take the view that such demand if it is happens is a bad thing and all prices should remain static. He clearly seems to prefer it if FL products do not go up in value. I suspect most FL collectors would prefer the value go up even if they do not actually plan to sell.

Just my thoughts.

Regards
Brett

I don't collect planning on selling in the future, but one never knows;)... But of course I would prefer anything I buy (Toy Soldier or not) to appreciate in value. And when I buy toy soldiers I buy based on what I like but I also take into consideration if it will be of any value in the future or not (whenever possible I do prefer items that come with boxes and that have some market value). After all, I won't be here forever and would prefer my son or my wife to get some value out of my collection if they feel like it.
