I really like this model from TGM but wanted to add a little weathering as to me looked a little clean and bright.

I gave it a total dark wash, repainted the tracks, drybrushed some with a dust color, "metalized" some areas, etc.

Robin got that right.

In my opinion you have greatly increased the appearence of the vehicle.
I have been "pondering" :rolleyes2: getting that model. Seeing yours all "done-up" pushes me a little more towards jumping in.

Very nice job.

(If I remember correctly they were not used on the Pacific Islands, but saw action in the Philippine's in the Battle of Luzon.)

You did an excellent job Duke and turned it into a highly detailed vehicle.

Agree this added feature gives it a more realistic look. Robin.

Thanks guys.

Larry, yes there weren't many of these made and weren't used much. I think they were also kept on the main home islands to be used in case of a land invasion.

YES, they were held back in anticipation of an invasion of Homeland Japan.
By 1945 the Type 1 had also been replace with a Type 3, but I don't know anyone who has made a Type 3, except maybe a plastic model company like Tamiya, Dragon and such.

VERY NICE shot of the tank with surroundng dio setup. It further exemplifies the superb work that you did to spruce up the vehicle.

I "assume" that you used a water color (as opposed to an oil), but which color?
Burnt Umber or a Dark Brown would be my guess. Maybe Gun Metal for the treads and such?

After seeing this your work pushed me over the fence to get one.

Larry,

I think you will like your purchase if you get one.

For the dark wash I used AK Interactive Dark Brown Wash. I went slowly applying to small areas, then when almost dry, would use a cotton swab and water to rub and remove excess leaving dark in recesses, etc. For the tracks I repainted with AK Interactive Track Wash. This leaves a nice track color and no need to remove excess. I also added some metal color to the tracks and other parts of the tank with a silver pencil. I hope this helps.

Many Thanks, Duke.
I have never used the AK Interactive products, except to try out the AK Concrete paste.

Appreciate the info!

Evening, Duke,

I was very fortunate and found a Thomas Gunn Ho-Ni for a great trade.
Now I need to buy some AK paint or see what Tamiya colors match your descriptions.

metal color to the tracks and other parts of the tank with a silver pencil.

The Silver Pencil I have. One down, two to go.

I'll post a couple of shots tomorrow, since I am house bound and have "PLENTY" of time now.

Sounds good Larry. I hope your project goes well. Looking forward to some pics.

Duke,
The tank weathering/rework looks fantastic. The photography is most pleasing to the eye too, as always.
