Ok, I love John's figures, I think he is a true gentleman, but here is my gripe, I do not like Resin Flags. Give me back my metal flags, I know the argument they fall over, so counter weight them.

Seriously, the flag is now more fragile and kind of cheap feeling.

Just my 2 cents, no complaints on figures or subject matter, just what the flag is made of.

As the board knows, I don't like light toys.

Yes Tom, we know you like "top-heavy" figures:D

I was thinking maybe a little bigger base.

Which figures of JJD have this new type of flags? Can't be FIW...

Actually, I prefer flags made out of metal foil that can be bent into any shape the collector desires. This would be more realistic looking than thick metal flags and would stablize the figure... But after saying this, I would not want to see a change in the construction of flags in the middle of a release. For new ranges, this could be considered.

I agree with TD . Feel very disapppointed with the resin flag ; I prefer entire lead; If I wanted resin or plastic I could'nt have collected Jenkins figures. So I hope there will not be other "monsters" and as Mike said more heavier bases can be the cure.

Thanks Larry, boy will I never live it down. YES, I admit, I own the Frontline Figure Cheerleaders set!!!!!!!!!!

I like the suggestion of bigger base or foil flag, but it should be all metal. To me, this is one of those areas, "If it aint broke, don't fix it" type of deals.

IMHO the new resin flag is great. It's light weight makes the tip over problem moot. No damage to figure or flag will occur unless the flagbearer gets too close to the bayonets of Barrel's Foot.:p The flag displays very well, ie., it is indistinguishable from the other flags as to it's material. I actually prefer the new resin flag as it also does not reposition itself through gravity or when heavy footsteps vibrate the floor and shelves. All in all a worthy "fix" to the heavy flag problem. -- Al

That, or maybe flags made of real cloth, either sown in colored pieces, or plain cloth totally painted, and then made stiff with some sort of chemical application (dullcote?). Or if the cloth flag is left soft, John could do a pose of a flagbearer like Griffing's Wounding of Braddock painting, take a look at it, the guy with the regimental flag is holding the end of it against the pole, that would look great as a metal figure with a cloth flag (maybe we should let John know so he'll re-release a similar BM-03! :D

Is the flag pole still made of metal, or is it resin too? I don't have these guys so I don't know.

Currently, the only resin flag is the new Cameron orange and yellow striped one in the Jacobite range. As far as I can determine, the staff is also resin. -- Al

The only flag I ever had trouble with was BM-03. The others seem to be fine. My guess is that the newer flags are cheaper to produce. Also increasing the weight of the base would add cost. So I guess it is a tradeoff if you don't like the new flags.

The Madhist flag from the Gordon at Khartoum range is resin as well.

Again, my opinion, but the metal flags are more vibrant also to me.

As for cost, can't be that much more, this figure isn't exactly cheap as it is. So for another $10, who cares.

Again, IMO,

Tom

I wonder if this applies just to the Jacobites. I'll need to check my Sudan set.

Re: Jenkins Flags - Metal or Resin

Ok,
let me start over slightly here b/c I realize as many that we never compliment the good points, only point out our dislikes.

1. John Jenkins is as good a guy as this hobby will ever have.

2. He produces as good a product from creativity, sculpt, design and subject matter.

3. He listens to what you have to say. Repeat He listens to what you have to say.

And I need to restate my original post slightly. The flag itself has many good points, it is done to a high standard, it is a great design. I just was slightly shocked by the material and my "knee jerked". If you are collecting this series, it fits fine, and would go unnoticed until you pick it up.

OK, my post was a feedback only post and also to hear what others think, certainly not a barrage on John. Truth be told, I know and have met John personally and we do correspond from time to time. An email to John is always answered like an old friend would answer. He is very accessible and again, he really listens to collector likes and dislikes. So, as usual, you always learn something, I forgot to post the positives on this series too - a great vignette, great sculpts and of course an excellent subject!

SO, Kudos in addition to my now polite request for metal!!

Re: Jenkins Flags - DO NOT like new material

You know...

John's flags are huge...

extremely heavy figures...

you get your moneys worth on a flagbearer...

the weight and toughness of his figures has always been one of the reasons I liked his series...

you get a lot of lead...

I don't own that many other manufacturers...

I do collect some K&C's...

I took some pictures of the K&C Crusader series collection next to JJD's flagbearers...

John's flags are massive...

all three of these Jenkin's flagbearer figures are 7 ounces plus...

the 1812 flag is over 3 ounces itself...

almost 1/2 pound per figure...

Going out on a limb here...

I'm guessing he changed to resin over metal because of comments from collectors...

He really is accessable and does listen to his collectors...

this change may have been someone's suggestion...

maybe he is just trying something new and would like some constructive feedback...

would anyone prefer a smaller flag in metal if it were more stable...

the resin flagbearers are more stable...

and truth be told...none of the six figures I photographed fare well on anything expect a smooth hard terrain...

this must be a common problem for all manufacturers...

John is open minded...he will listen to comments and will try to please...

I don't follow what has been edited from all these posts.

A lot of these posts show "edit notations"...

why are these posts being edited...

I can't tell what was removed, if anything, from my first unedited reading...

I'm a big Jenkin's collector and definitely pro Jenkins...

I read every post prior to being edited...and have not found any to be insulting, derogatory or inflaming...

I think John would like to see this feedback...

why have these posts been chopped up...

this was good feedback...

nothing ugly...

I read everyone of them and was just thinking how John would like to have this thread emailed to him...

I hope someone puts each comment back in it's entireity...

please put these posts back so the manufacturer has a chance to review them...

John should have a chance to see what his customers want.

Forgot about the new range when I posted, Jeff. I don't have any as of this point. But I do hear them calling... -- Al

I see my earlier posts in this thread also have been "edited" but my posts are as I wrote them. What has been edited and why? -- Al
