Arguably one of the greatest NBA players of all time. The NBA logo. He had the misfortune to play against the greatest dynasty in sports history. The 1960s Celts. When I was a kid, he was coaching the Lakers and he came walking through the stands. I chased him down and got his autograph. Complete awe. He was also responsible for a big trade to draft Kobe Byrant. A big risk for a high school player. West was a larger than life figure.

A commentator yesterday mentioned that West was once the NBA Finals MVP while playing for the team that lost the series. That kind of sums up his star-crossed career. Usually the best player on the court but often on the losing end. He made up for that as a GM with several NBA championships.
