I believe that a minimum WILL be set, and if that number of preorders is not reached the figures will not be produced. In turn , John will make only enough sets to fill the preorders - and that is it. That's at least how I understand it.
I asked him last night, how many sets he needs pre-ordered.....before he reaches the "break even" point and will agree to produce it...but he has not responded yet.
I have heard in the past that most sculptors charge around $600 to sculpt a figure. Some ask less......around $400.
John sculpts his own....so there is no way to gauge his investment on sculpting a figure. I mean for him.......it's just time involved......not cash out of pocket.
I just can't imagine his disappointment (or mine), if he sculpted a set and didn't get enough pre-orders to cast the prototype.
If he didn't......I guess it would just sit on a shelf somewhere in Hong Kong and never get produced.
My only concern is that sets that I would want to make "multiple" purchases on would be in the collector's series.
I understood the rules to be that you buy one figure and you get one membership.
If you buy 10 figures you get 10 memberships.
You are then allowed to buy the next released figure in the increments of memberships you have purchased on the previous figure.
I mean...as long as the are "one off figures" or celebrity figures that I would only want one of......then I'm okay with that.
He did tell me that if he released sets that customers might buy in multiples, he would release them as "general releases", with no restrictions on amounts purchased as allowed by amounts of each members memberships allow.
So, i was glad to hear that.
If he released "firing lines" or "marching sets"....I would want multiple purchases.
I wouldn't want to be restricted to only one of these because I only bought one membership on the original Lt. Jenkins release.
I just hope the collector's releases are things like "flag bearers", "celebrity figures" or "one off pieces", because I will only buy one Lt. Jenkins.
Am I making sense?
