I'm not sure where to post this...I hope it doesn't get moved...I have some JJD friends that were interested in buying Heritage figures made by Martin Tabony for their Nile/Sudan collection...they were interested in knowing how they matched up in size with the JJD...I added the Wm. Brits to the line up also...they are lovely figures and I think they work okay...you can judge for yourself...

in order...left to right...

2 JJD...1 Heritage...2 Wm. Brit...

this is very exciting to me as Martin has a huge assortment of both FW's and Mahdist...also Gordons and Camel Corp...not to mention mounted Dervish...

Michael,

How do you like the HM figures. Did you order any Camel Corps or just figures that match Jenkins' figures?

Looks like the chunky-ness of JJD but the height of WB. Sorry but for my money it is still WB.

Nice to have a side by side Michael, thank you for taking the time to post.

Thanks Mike for posting this. I have been watching these Heritage Sudan figures from last year's London photo's & toy soldier collector mags. The variety is great, especially the mounted figures and make a wonderful display, but I keep hesitating to commit. For me I just feel they do not quite fit in with my JJ & Britian range, possibly something to do with the stlye of the faces, not sure. If there was nothing else in Sudan, I certainly would get heaps of these. Thankfully also the amount of money I already spend each month on K&C, JJ & BRIT, is too much, so I just have watch others collect this series. There might eventully be some non figure related items which may fit in. Cheers, Robin.

I do like them...Martin does nice work...the skin tone is a shade lighter than the JJD and Wm. Brits...but that's certainly acceptable...I have no idea which is more accurate...

the figures have a good weight to them and a solid feel...heavy metal...

the painting seems very clean and crisp...

the base is very stable and solid...

the hands/fingers and feet/toes are quite nice...good detail...very well sculpted...

the variety of poses are super cool...Martin is deep into this series...the last time I spoke to him he was getting ready to make some stand alone unmounted camels...

I only purchased one piece as a "test"...I cannot comment on his Camel Dervish or Camel Corp....but they look very nice...

the only thing I didn't love about these is...

1) they don't have factory boxes with foam to ship them in...mine was sent well packed and arrived in perfectly good shape...but there is no "Heritage" box with foam to store them in...mine arrived in a nice small plain white box wrapped in tissue paper and then bubble wrap...

2) I think the spear head could be a tad stronger...I don't think it will be a problem...but I told the distributor it was just a wee bent when it arrived and suggested him taping it to the inside of the box for future shipping...I'm not sure if all the weapons are detachable and can be shipped this way...again...mine arrived in tissue paper and bubble wrap...

I think it's a great product and I will buy more...

The price quoted for a camel was $75, which I think is rather pricey. All of the camels I have are glossy (K & C, Trophy, Britains and Somerset). I have the two Britains glossy camels and they were around $50 each. The Little Legion ones are around $45 and even with the shipping from Europe, it won't be that expensive.

I will probably go with some LL, plus they fit in with my other glossies (although the HMs can be made glossy, in all fairness).

Michael

Any idea why the JJD Mahdists you show are wearing light grey jibbas rather than the authentic white shown on John's website? Mine are grey too.

Mike,

Thanks for posting the images.

I'll get some photos of the figures at London and then will hopefully post my Britains/Heritage Camel Corps firing line for a comparison.

No...no idea...but you're right...they are different shades...

the flagbearer's jibba is much whiter than the other figures...my picture might not show it well...but it's much whiter...at least the top is...I would prefer the brighter white if we get a choice...top and bottom...

Thanks Mike. I'm going to get some of the Nile figures soon and this shows a good comparison. Can you do a similar comparison of the JJD and WB British troops. As the 2 companies Brits are in different uniforms, I likely will get a few of each.

Terry...

I'm sorry...I would love to help you...but I don't own a single Wm. Brit 42nd or Camel Corp figure...

maybe Robin...aka Villagehorse on here...can help you...

Nice comparison photograph Mike. It is also interesting to see the stylistic variations in sculpting.

From Left to right, the first two are John Jenkin's from his line, the third Martin Tabony's collection, the fourth W. Britain sculpt by Alan Ball and the last one is another W. Britain figure sculpted by me.
I think they would all work pretty well in a massed scene giving you the nice variations in pose and dress.

I gotta agree with you Ken...I have all you Mahdist/FW's and they look like they work well with JJD and Heritage to me...

Ok this has got the better of me, I intend at some stage to order a few, not easy by the looks, so I can compare. Mike I have sent email to Alex to see how to order, who do you think would be the best supplier given I am in Australia? Cheers, Robin

Robin...I'm sorry...the only distributors I know of are in Indiana USA and Maison Militaire in North Yorkshire, UK...I know it's expensive for ship to Australia...so I don't have any ideas...I'm sorry...some dealer in Australia should approach Martin...I think these might be popular there...I honestly think they match well with the Wm. Brit and JJD FW's/Mahdists...

Ken has been dealing in figures for twenty plus years and regularly posts to Australia, I know he'll do the best he can for you.

Martin

Really pleased with these, they fit well with JJ & Britains. Cheers, Robin.
