Hey all,
I don't know if this has been suggested yet, but how about a figure depicting Gettysburg native John Burns?! He was 69 years old at the time of the battle and a War of 1812 veteran. He fought along side the Iron Brigade on July 1st and was even wounded three times! A few months later President Lincoln met with him and he was given a pension after the war. He died in 1872.
I think this would be a very cool figure for WB to make. What do you all think?

FWIW, I think Trophy made a figure of him in their Limited Edition Gettysburg set.

I've made this suggestion to Britains several times in the past. I think it's a wonderful idea. I'm glad to hear that others have thought about the same thing. A figure of Burns would be great to round out any display of 1 July 1863.

Burns fought alongside the 150th Pennsylvania, then the 7th Wisconsin and finally the 24th Michigan. While fighting with the 24th, Burns received 3 wounds. Two weeks after the battle, the chaplain of the 24th wrote:

"We called upon the old patriot, Mr. Burns, the other day and found him quite comfortable. He is the man, though past seventy, who shouldered his musket and went to the field and fought with the Iron Brigade. He is made of the right kind of stuff. Let his name be recorded in history as an example of mature patriotism."

I'd buy one no question, I've been reading about his action that day and this guy had real guts. Taking his ancient gun and walking out to take on the Rebs like that shows real character, wounded three times I believe before finally calling it a day.

I would buy it, and I don't even have an inkling of desire to collect ACW! He would make a nice civilian defending his home for many eras....

John Burns is to the Iron Brigade at Gettysburg as eggs are to bacon. I'd be interested in a representative figure . . . .

Burns was kind of a jerk about the late Jenny Wade.

"I knew Miss Wade very well. The less said about her the better. The story about her loyalty, her being killed while serving Union soldiers, etc., is all of fiction, got up by some sensation correspondent. You can refer to any loyal citizen for the truth...I could call her a she-rebel."
