Greetings all,
I have been collecting JJ Knights of the Sky for a couple of years but missed out on the initial issues of the Sopwith Camel, Nieport 17 and SE-5a. I've acquired two "used" Nieuports and noticed that both have a slight droop in the upper and lower port wings. I've also noticed that the used Sopwiths that have come up seem to have wing droops as well.
Have any of you here seen or experienced this issue? I'm curious if it's something that has cropped up on certain models and not others. I have acquired "new" versions of the Fokker DVII, Albatros, Spad, DH-2 and Roland CII, none of which have any issues.

Cheers!

I have samples of all the Nieuport 17's that JJD has issued and none have any significant wing droop, outside of the natural curve that they came with, which is a little to curved on one but not the other two. Not so with the early Albatros D-III models which have had issues with the lower wings in some samples. John willingly replaced those models with serious droop and later redid the problem Albatros with a new wing. My Camels are mainly OK but one of the four does have a small droop on the lower wings. This is because it is a prototype of the Naval 10 Camel that was done many years ago with an experimental wing material that John decided not to go forward with. My issue Camels have no problems outside of the lower wing angle being too flat, not drooping, just angled too flat, but I don't think it is a manufacturing defect as much as the angle just being wrong. -- Al

I have an older JJD Sopwith Camel, Nieuport, and SE5A that I purchased secondhand, as well as several, older models that I purchased new (I’m classifying older models as those with the white fishing line rigging). That said, I’ve not seen any significant wing droop on my models, though I have heard of it being an issue and have seen pics of it occurring with some JJD models. I’ve just not had any issues with my models, or at least issues that I thought were glaring.

Thanks Lancer and Sergeant! I appreciate you posting on this. It seems to be a relatively random issue.
Cheers!

From reading this and another, older thread on this topic - plus the fact that our mostly early 6 JJD warbirds are steady - I agree. Random means there was usually some reason, small or not, that led to a defect.
Complex pieces! No complaints here!
