Joseph Bonaparte Stadden (1 Viewer)

I went further and reshaped his head, lowering the crown and forehead. I haven't taken a shot of the latest update as I was doing multiple projects. The quality of the pics also are not great this round - a zany green background under very poor lighting conditions.

I lowered the crown of his head considerably including having a bald pate on top. The top part of the figure was carefully painted in oils. This was a more satisfactory result and while waiting for the paint to dry, I have started to concentrate on the horse now. Originally planned as a roan-coloured horse, I have decided to make it a black horse for colour contrast.

I really can't wait to see how this turns out. I think black is a good decision for the horse.

Black it is then. The colour used was burnt umber and black. I am leaving some areas for white markings and will add the ears and tail later to minimise breakage. So far so good.
I do apologise for the photo quality as I have had to rush many of my shots and the weather has been dreary lately. I tend to work in this unfocused manner as I like to work on multiple projects all at the same time, impatiently waiting for putty to set, resin glue to set, oil paints to dry etc.

With surplus glue from the chariot assembly, I added the horse tail and ears to this piece.

I finalised the horse ears and painted the horse. Surface defects were scrapped off for further painting. For the JB figure, I carefully shaped the top of his head to represent a bald pate. I added the bicorne hat and also a fabricated sword from Historex bits. The figure was posed on the horse to position the sword. The figure was further painted. it's starting to look decent.

It has been a while since I last worked on this piece. Looking at the head, I decided to add more to his dome.

The last few pics were the last straw. As I wasn't happy with the results, I decided to strip the paint off the figure and redo the painting.

You need musket balls (solid cast) to do this. Figure was soaked in Dettol overnight.

Figure appears intact. Started to paint some undercoats. I may resculpt some areas to refine this figure.

I filed down the sides of the head and face to create a thinner profile. I also substituted the ears with commercial ears.

Hello Mike,

Thanks for your comments. I have worked more on the figure, making minor changes.

Painted more of the figure, trying to capture a hapless Joseph look when compared to the Imperious Napoleon.

I scrapped off imperfections and painted the epaulettes and decorations with black and highlighted the details.

Repainted the figure and focused on doing the saddle as well. Lots of gold embroidery to do there. I rather like this pensive figure so want to do a good job here.

I decided that Joseph B, being king of Spain, should be riding a Spanish or Portuguese horse. As this horse is rather leggy, I decided that it should be a Lusitano. I read that their coat colours were mostly in greys. So the horse is being painted as such and I am also extending the mane.

The resculpted mane. I also touched in the spots more vigorously and lightened the breeches.
