Scene here using K&C AF019 pilot figure depicting pilot of P-47D "Sleepy Jean the 3rd" William Wayland of the 368th Fighter Group and 395th Fighter Squadron known as the "Panzer Dusters". Plane is old Revell 1/32 kit that I spent the last week working on. Since this P-47 was in the 9th AF instead of the 8th, I removed the 8th AF patch from the sleeve of the figure.

That's a very nice photo and a great job on that model of the P47
Mike

Thanks Mike. The old Revell kit lacks some detail, has raised rivets, etc., but I like it because it doesn't have that many parts like some kits and is easy to assemble. I did have to add after market decals and wheels. The wheels that come with the kit are horrible.

Good build Duke. I haven’t the patience these days to attempt anything like this, little lone no painting skills either. Robin.

Thanks Robin. I'm with you on the patience thing. I started this last Monday and finished this weekend. During the process of building and painting, I several times got frustrated and wondered if I really wanted to continue. I can't imagine these guys that spend months on a highly detailed kit. Those days for me are gone I'm afraid. Although I do still have a few of those high parts kits in my stash, I don't know if I will ever be getting around to building them.

Thought I would post some pictures here from the 368th fighter group website (photos property of 368thfightergroup.com and used with permission). First photo is of Wayland with wife Jean (whom plane is named after), and second photo is color photo of the nose art of "Sleepy Jean the 3rd", third photo is of Wayland with ground crewman alongside original "Sleepy Jean". William "Bill" Wayland pilot of P-47D was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. I felt like this K&C pilot figure with mustache was a good representation of Wayland.
