June 2018 releases (2 Viewers)

Moving onto our Imperial Romans we have three more cavalry to add to our first three which are now approaching retirement stage here as stocks run low on the original release. If you are stuck as to whether you get the elephant or the cavalry this month, remember only a small number of elephants available this month, but all the cavalry are here!
The first one features ROM093 Auxiliary Cavalry Legionnaire on rearing black horse.
Comes in 2 versions with A version carries a red shield decorated with 3 scorpions and B version with green shield from the Ala ll Flavia Legion. Priced at $120/£80 and limited to 150 each version.

ROM REP003 features a Republican Roman archer firing downwards, a useful addition for the John Jenkins fort when it is released or can be used as an additional crew member to man the Carthaginian elephant above.

Priced at $49/£39 inc VAT and limited to 100 in number.

ROM REP002 comprises a Roman Velite preparing to take on our Carthaginian elephant! The Velites were a class of light Roman infantry who were armed with spears and short thrusting swords. They rarely wore armour as they were the youngest and poorest soldiers in the Legion, however they did carry small shields and wore headdress made from wolf skins. Velites were placed at the front of a Legion as skirmishers and usually took on enemy chariots and elephants because of this positioning during a battle. A Legion normally had around 1000 Velites on its strength, Velites were disbanded as a military unit within the Legion under the Marius reforms of 107 BC.
Priced at $55/£45 inc VAT and limited to 150 in number.

ROM EN005 features a Carthaginian infantry soldier wearing a magnificently sculpted Phrygian style helmet with ornate face guard charging into battle. We based this figure on a picture from an Osprey series book and have attached the picture so you can see close up the great detail on this figure. He could also be used as a soldier from Alexander the Great' army as the dress was very similar between the two empires.
A version comes with red detail on shield.
B version with blue detail on shield.
Priced at $55/£45 inc VAT and limited to 150 in number total production run.

Rome and her Enemies

ROM EN011 Carthaginian War Elephant: The Carthaginian republic was one of the oldest and largest states in the Ancient Mediterranean arena. The Carthaginians fought several wars with her neighbour Republican Rome, the third one in 146 BC culminating in their downfall. Prior to that the Carthaginians had fought bravely with Hannibal conducting a 15 year reign of terror on the Roman mainland, but crucially unable to bring Rome to the negotiating table. Scipio Aemilianus was able to launch an all out assault on the capital city Carthage, the final result being the city burnt to the ground and the 50,000 surviving inhabitants sold into slavery. Rumour has it that the soil where the city once stood was sown with salt, as a message to any other rebellious states that this would also be their fate if they sought to take on the might of Rome. Our first Carthaginian piece is a magnificent elephant beautifully decorated, with 3 crew figures and more Carthaginians to follow including Hannibal later on this year.

Priced at $499/£399 inc VAT with a planned production run of 100 pieces. We have 30 pieces here at present with the rest arriving in July. Please note we offer a 3 month deferred payment option on this piece, please contact us for details should you be interested.

Dear All,
We are pleased to present our new figures for June 2018, we sincerely hope you enjoy them all with a varied selection on offer this month. Last month saw a surprise with the Russian Grenadier selling particularly well with only a few left, we will definitely be making some more of these in a variety poses plus some French later on in the year! This months releases something of a large offering, even more to enjoy though I hear you say!

Roman cavalry look interesting though the horses and this is only a personal point of view, don't look so natural to me as the previous ones perhaps it's the painting style or angle of photos !?
Rather than jumping straight in this month I think I'll wait a bit and see what others make of them, since I'm still waiting on an owed item to come into stock anyway.
Two other comments about them, I'd rather see them using their shields, we already had one with it on his back in the last lot. Surely you would use your primary method of defence ! Also pity TG didn't stick to the same type of helmet throughout and yes though I agree the cross bars on the helmets were used, Why not if you must have them, stick to the earlier version as seen on the Legionaries in scale armour. This more pointed version at the crown is rather off putting and I've already filed it down on the kneeling figures I have.

Would like to see some more Roman's labouring, though not with beards and bareheaded and actually working rather then leaning on their shovels !

Anyway glad to see some more Japs are in the pipeline.

Thomas Gunn for the last couple of years have taken most of my TS funds, together with K & C, not a lot for me this month except the Kubelwagon. Like the Paras, but only the winter version, look forward to the 2 new ones and the Japanese figures. Spartans are great but only collect the Lambdin shield versions. Roman cavalry look good but I want some that served in Britain alongside my 9th Legion figures, have 1 criticism and that the T Gunn Romans are not great at their job, after all they, like us, cannot find the tribes of Britains, where are they all....... I wonder if Thomas Gunn can tell us? Do they know when there will be some British tribes will be coming out to challenge the Legions.............

Soon I hope, although JJD has made plenty which look very good.

There will be 3 more cavalry end of the year in different poses using their shields for defence etc plus a wounded figure, these ones just released are all part of a bigger picture that will make a great diorama once completed.
If you come up to London Steve on the 30th you can see them in person, personally we think these are better than the first batch but all a matter of personal taste of course.

Best Gunn

Morning Treefroggers!

The gun crew for the Howitzer will be generic, can be used as German or Austrians or that is the plan!

Hi Tom.

Thanks for responding.

Sorry, I don't think much of the plan!

Austrian WWI uniforms were markedly different from German WWI uniforms!

Be Brave! For WWI do Austrian Uniforms, and for WWII do German uniforms.

You will find that there are a lot of very frustrated WWI Austrian Collectors out there just waiting for this opportunity! Many collectors will buy both sets.

Anyone out there who agrees with me?

Oberstinhaber
Would love to see the very distinctive Austrian uniforms for the WW1 version. Please don't go generic. -- Al

Soon I hope, although JJD has made plenty which look very good.

Yes the JJD do look great but they are Gauls and different in dress and style [plus the figures have a strange whiff of garlic and cheese about them]. We need some Iceni, Silures, Canti, Celts and Picts, may I also make suggestion for the next Legion, the 2nd Augusta Legion, great for the Invasion in AD43, battles of the South of England and Wales*, plus building of Hadrian's Wall.

Keep up the great work T Gunn, great product, reasonable priced and excellent ranges.

* By the way the battles with the Welsh are still ongoing, if in name only, it is legal to shoot a Welshman with a bow and arrow within the walls of the City of Chester after midnight.

But then we are a strange lot, the rules/laws below still apply,

Under the UK’s Tax Avoidance Schemes Regulations 2006, it is illegal not to tell the taxman anything you don’t want him to know, though you don’t have to tell him anything you don’t mind him knowing.

In the UK, a pregnant woman can legally relieve herself anywhere she wants – even, if she so requests, in a policeman’s helmet.

In England, all men over the age of 14 must carry out two hours of longbow practice a day.

In London, it is illegal to flag down a taxi if you have the plague

JJD has shown sculpts of the Iceni and will release in September.
I am really excited about the forthcoming Persians in action and their cavalry. I wonder if TG will consider Greek and Macedonian cavalry.
Really enjoying the Greeks and Romans!

Thanks Blake for the heads up that there will be a further release of Roman Cavalry at the end of the year. the current ones may well grow on me !

I am glad that the Carthaginian War Elephant includes an archer, I was starting to wonder where the arrows came from that seem to have found their way into the Roman shields.

Here is a display we have been setting up for London, board by TM Terrain, the Romans and Dacians obviously ours!

We look forward to seeing you there, if you cannot make it then hopefully this is something of a Taster of the day.

Great Ranges!
I am particularly enthusiastic about your new Carthaginian War Elephant

I was really pleased with your Roman Elephant , which I bought in the unpainted version through saimex over here in italy.
Can you please let me know if this one will also be available unpainted ?

I believe the unpainted version option is a fantastic idea in fact!
To me painting the model is the best part of the fun!
I do like the opportunity of doing a bit of superdetailing and weathering, as well as adding a bit extra stowage , etc.
(I am also a keen AFV modeller - and Ellies were in fact the Tanks of Antiquity!!).
Cheers!
