For all those toy soldier collectors that have girlfriends, wives, or some type of significant other today is sweetest day. Yeah I know it's a hallmark holiday but they do put up with or at least tolerate our little toy soldier addiction . On the plus side I've found out by keeping them happy at least on their "special " days- birthdays, anniversaries, and such you'll live longer:D I've had a couple of near death experiences in the past and I have a bad memory when it comes to these things so I thought if I could give somebody else a heads up it might just save their life or at least make for a trouble free day.

Sweetest Day is like Valentines day I guess . I'm no expert but I do remember not getting her a card or something one year and my girlfriend brought it up for six months straight every time I got a soldier in the mail. I don't want to live through that again.

You're right. It may be a Hallmark thing but if you're girlfriend is bringing it up, "discretion is the better part of valor."

After 43 years my wife was happy to get three new exterior doors and a new kitchen light fixture. She said she don't need a card. I guess seeing my smiling face for another day is enough. Leadmen

I've never heard of such an occassion and had to google it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweetest_Day

Over the years I've been successful with some gentle persuasion in avoiding these pitfalls. For example, many years ago I explained to my wife that Valentines Day and similar occassions was traditionally only meant to be observed by single people. And as we are happy married people we no longer have to take part in these commercial events. Sorry, but I can't help you single guys, you'll have to find your own excuse :)
