Gideon,

sorry to hear the bad news. It is an excellent set, took me a great while to find one for myself! Anyhow, I am curious to see if ebay doesn't kill your listing, I agree 100% with the information you provided, but I am curious if they let it fly! They have terrible nonsensical rules in some cases.

Your bidder should not be allowed to bid on ebay ever!

By the way, I assume you have their cust. service 800 line being a long time seller. I would recommend calling it, getting a supervisor on the phone and digging deeper into the past auction. It is worth the time to clean up the site as what happened is ridiculous. Also, I am sure if they could restore a second chance offer at 1200 they would, so it might be worth a call.

Thats a good point - absolutely.

The only reason I won't do this is because it is the Trust and Safety department. Talking with them is like dealing with some religious zealot bent on shaping the world in their interpretive vision of what someboady said long ago in a different time.

If ever I have had a strange ideological debate, it was with them. They are absolutely inflexible - when they make a decision that's it.

I could be wrong, please tell me if I am.

I like to beat a dead horse sometimes, so I would call, that's me.

How on earth they won't let a second chance offer happen when he only bid at the end is beyond me.

Sometimes, it seems there are some ebayers out there who like to crap on high value auctions for no reason? I guess they don't like others realizing full value.

I don't know, sad situation nonetheless.

I had the conversation - nadda.

The T&S rep actualy stated that there are people who do this to disrupt high end auctions and that I need to examine the reasons this happened - as in, what attracted a person like this to this item? What could I have done to prevent such a bid? It's like wondering what set the insane guy down the block off - but I gotta figure it out.

There is just no protection for the seller. An irresponsible eBayer gets to have his id restored witha bunch of resources helping him while my auction generates an email telling all the bidders that a false bidder got hold of my auction and forced eBay to delete it. Well, how many people pay full attention to an email and read it all the way through? Not many

WOW, and they wonder why the company is losing money, there was a waste of a salary.

Well, I find it awful that the person who did this, has no repercussions to his own user id. Let's be honest, NOBODY hacked that guy's account to make 1 bid at the last minute, that's bull.

Sorry to hear about all of this, I hope you realize a good value this time,

Tom

That truly is unfortunate.

What a coincidence that his account was hacked into just at the last minute the auction was ending. I wonder if Ebay track things like this and see if there are any repeat performances.

This actually happened to me both as a seller and a buyer. It happened to me as a seller twice. Couldn't believe it. It also happened to me four or five years ago. I received an email that purported to be from ebay and I clicked on a link. My account was hijacked and it took me a few weeks to get my account back. Ergo, never click on a link in an email that is allegedly from ebay or paypal. Usually, it will be a phony email.

Absolutely - but I find it really odd all the way around. This is the second time this id has been "hacked" and a bid withdrawn.

I asked Trust and Safety to do a historic search on all bids placed by this id and determine exactly what is going on.

Looking at the users profile leaves me scratching my head. It is just so odd. He listed an apple ibook which I placed a bid on. He actually emailed me telling me that the auction was not legit and that his account was hijacked. I responded back telling him that I've requested an investigation into his id history to show that he has done before. I have not received a response back.

What sucks worse is now the item itself might be suspect even though I have posted what happened. The confidence might have eroded. I have to trust that people know me from this forum and from past dealings to feel comfortable bidding again.

I expressed to Trust and Safety how they are leaving sellers out to dry - that we are the ones who suffer when unathorized id usage strikes but to no avail. Like I said - the trust and safety department is the idealogical backbone of eBay - what they decide is law on eBay servers and they do not go backwards on decisions nor admit fault with a bad system.
