I recently was able to purchase a glossy set of the Chinese Wedding Party. In researching this set on Bill Sager's web site, I have found that this is the first set released in the Imperial Collection (IC) and is identifeid by the letters "CWP". All sets listed after the CWP are desiginated with an "IC001, IC002.... . The set is pictured on Sager's site and to me, as with the other releases of this range, appears to be a matte finish. My set is glossy. Also, my set is stamped K&C with a "Silk Rd." reference. A little bit confusing. I will include a picture below - more pictures on are in a photo album within my TF user area. Any input/help/info would be appreciated.

Thanks - Peter

Peter,

Why don't you send a pm or email to Larry or Louis. I'm sure they will know the answer.

This was the first release of the Chinese wedding
and it was glossy
I remember looking at it many times when i used
to go to Dutkins collectibles in Cherry Hill in New Jersey
The matte release came just 3-4 years ago i think

Oh this is painful to watch!...first it's Elvis now it's the whole wedding set in Gloss!:(:(:(

You are the man Peter, awesome find!!!

I was touring the main ballroom at the show with Andy Sunday, and as we passed William Hocker's table, he let out a bit of a secret about this set. Andy got his inspiration from a Hocker Chinese Wedding set, something from their discussion at the show it appeared (somewhat surprisingly) Bill Hocker was quite pleased with. I am not going to tell you which set, but Andy was quite impressed with another of Bill's sets at the show, and discussed the possibility of another of Bill's subjects being redone in K&C's style.:wink2:

Of course this is very exciting news. Now what set could this be...hmmm?

Dear Peter,

The original glossy Chinese Wedding Possession was not part of the Imperial Collection and was listed under its own heading in the K&C catalog as set "CWP" and it retailed for $833. All the figures with bases had "Silk Rd." stamped on the bottom, but this set was not part of the Silk Road with a "SR0##" set number. Bill Sager has this set incorrectly placed as part of the Imperial Collection on his website. The first Imperial Collection set (IC001) is "The Emperor and Empress seated on their Imperial Thrones."

K&C later released an updated "New Chinese Wedding Possession" as HK154 which was available in either glossy or matt for $699.

That is very helpful! Is the set rare/difficult??

The set came in a plain brown box with a gold foil embossed K&C generic label. The box has a hand written notation "CWPG". When I received it, from the way it was packed, it appeared that the figures had never been removed from the box. I can't tell you the great care that was taken in wrapping each figure. Bubble wrap, tissue and foam for almost all of the items.

Peter,

I am not sure if this set is rare as I do not know how many were made by K&C. The set was first listed in a November, 1997 price list as "CWP" with individual pieces also available with set numbers CW01 to CW12, and the Sedan Chair and Bride available as "CWB." Only the full set is listed in the price lists from 2000 to 2004. Because the set was relatively expensive for the time, I would guess fewer than 50 were made.:smile2:

I have one of these complete sets. I love it. All hand painted, all of the characters, flags, everything. The figures are the older style chunky castings - one of my all time favorites. One heck of a heavy box too.

Peter,
Congratulations!! That is a great set to find. Amazing what you have been able to find in such as short period of time. Here is a photo - not the best, but the wedding party takes center stage.
