hello friend's, i was curious to know what you all thought about the new m-5 tractor?? i plan on picking one up soon and thought about getting a forces of valor 105 howitzer to be towed by the m-5, i don't like to mix and match, especially on my battle of bulge diorama, but the howitzer does look very sharp, and i could get mark from build-a-rama to winterize it for me, i wish we had a k&c 105!!!please let me know what you think, good or bad idea?? sammy

Hello sammy, I personally will not be purchasing the K/C Tractor it just does not interest me.......too many other items that I like......My view in general is I do not like to mix and match too much since each manufacturer has a different style and the differences can be quite obvious when placed directly next to or with each other......there are exceptions but this is "my general rule".....regards Vezzolf

The photos look nice, but the tractor needs a gun to make it truly interesting. The 105 will do for now, but the PROPER use for the M5 was to pull the 155mm howitzer and its "cousin" the 4.5" field gun. Few people appreciate that the US Army bought prime movers that were pretty specific to each class of gun. So when Andy builds the 155 howitzer I'll want the M5 (of course, by then the M5 will be discontinued, sold out and selling for $300 on eBay!)

At first I wasn't going to buy the M5 but then I saw it in a diorama and had to get it. I think it's a great vehicle, with or without the 155.

If you take a look at this thread , there are pictures of the M5 pulling a 155 (you have to go through a couple of pages to see the photo from K & C) plus Gary's comment.

:D:D HERE HERE!!! I have beheld (and held) the beast! I agree it is a beaut!
I will buy one and pull what ever I please with it. Even a Matel Honey Wagon..?
If one was ever made?
I figure in real field situations the GI's used what ever they could to pull what ever needed pulling at the time.
So enjoy all ya'all, if you do get it!!

I have the M5 and I too am hoping that a towable 155mm howitzer is made some time in the near future. However, I am very pleased with the M5 with or without the howitzer. The figures, especially the facial features of the fellow gestering with both hands is one of the best done by K&C. If I had it to do over again, I would buy it again.

Not everything has to look just like a picture in some reference book. Not all events, equipment or people were photographed in all the possible combinations and sometimes it's just good to put something together that looks like it very likely happened, i.e. the Abt. 505 Hounor Bound winter Tiger I. The M5 did not always have an artillery piece being faithfully towed behind it as it (the M5) moved around the theater.

But it would be, yes it's time (at least once a week ya know I have to post this), nice to see a DRAGON WAGON and a BEDFORD LORRY too.:)

didn't really rate it , until I saw it , in the K&C shop. It's bigger than I had thought and as Michael says the figures are well done. :)

It's a good thing I still kept my old plastic models. Just dug up my stowed boxes and voila! My old Airfix 155 Howitzer (1/32) is still intact! It blended well with the M5 Tractor. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

Here's an idea - skip the gun and get a big boat on a trailer! In the first part of "Kelly's Heroes", Big Joe is talking to the captain as the officer gets ready to send a "liberated" boat to the rear. What is pulling the boat? An M5 tractor! There are a couple M5 tractors in the column of vehicles that pass by Kelly's unit as they are resting beside the road (before they learn about the bank). That movie is about the only major movie with an M5 in it (that I can remember anyway).
