Received the new French line infantry (Grenadiers) today.
I am a long time and loyal K&C collector. I rarely comment and when I do it is mostly to praise the products. With this release, however, I do have some constructive criticism.
First the figures are noticeably larger (taller and chunkier) then the previously released French Grenadiers and other Napoleonic era infantry. They will not blend well with older K&C releases or other makers (e.g. W.Britains, First Legion and CS).
They remind me of the older ARW marching figures that were out of proportion to later releases.
Second the choice of poses and accessorizing really precludes one from collecting multiples to form a line or column. One marching figure has a full beard which I have only seen on Sappers in pictures from the period. Another marching figure holds an apple with a bite taken out. You certainly can't use him attack marching into battle or in any multiples! NA233 had the potential for multiples in an attack march column except for a patch on one pants leg and a stripped/rolled blanket with firewood attached. Other accessories on the backpack make for an "individual" figure only. NA236 (advancing/charging) is more generic so is really the only figure multiples would look good with but again the size bothers me.

The mounted officer, walking officer, flag bearer and drummer boy are very nice figures and although on the large size end they could stand apart from the other infantry with reasonable synergy.

I will not collect multiples of this series and will wait to see how the additional battle poses fare.

Looking forward to more of the Egyptian campaign releases which so far is my favorite release of Napoleonics.

I don't do K&C, but am trying to decide on a line infantry regiment to collect. First Legion's is kind of $$$, while Frontline's is very simple, but much cheaper. K&C has some very interesting figures, as you say, but while it is nice to have these figures to add a bit of variety, there must also be some standard ones, and they are just as $$$ as FL. So in short, I might go for Napoleon in Egypt, with the no-duplicates and lots of scenery instead.

Could you post some pictures so we can see how much bigger?

If they continue getting bigger I'll soon be able to display them with my old Action Men ^&grin^&grin^&grin

I can see some slight variation but there is no excuse to make figures noticeably different. All of the companies have done it and I don't understand how they can miss it.Don't they have QC?

Have a look at the new German Battle of the Bulge Figures for the Flak Gun, they are HUGE compared to the others in the K & C Battle of the Bulge Range

Just trying to give my perspectives here:

1. Size... they are slightly chunkier than the pervious releases (i.e. recently retired French Line Grenadiers in the pre-1812 uniform). But they blend in well.

I placed mind next to the foot Dragoons... they have similar sizes

K&C never mix well with FL in terms of scale and painting style

2. I support K&C's decision to produce multiple varieties with slightly different poses. I am one of those collectors who cannot afford multiple buys on 1 figure.

3. My only complain is the red band and red/blue pompon... I suppose these line infantries are fussiliers not grenadiers.

4. I really like the variation in gestures/facial hair & expressions on these figures. Keep them up!

5. In the future I am looking forward to more NAP figures in idle rather than in combat. We already had a lot of combat figures. I think the NAP Egypt line is excellent but I am out of budget to start collecting another series.

Hello all

The new French are very individualistic .. so I am happy with getting just one of each. For the same reason, I like the Napoleon Egypt very much.

I am hoping that their follow up releases add to the atmosphere already created, rather than go off in a different direction. So maybe, more French infantry patrolling, moving up or advancing in loose skirmish
line ?

They cost sufficiently more than the old Grenadiers to deter me adding multiples.
