Hey, I was looking at the 2009 Westcoaster Figure (PM018) and noticed on the bottom of it is has just - "King & Country - PREMIUM GIFT" - that is different than what has happened in the past isn't ?

Didn't the 2008 AK guy from the Chicago Show have that show listed on the bottom ?

Interesting change - anyone else notice that ?

The bottom of the Chicago Show Figure reads as:

AFRIKA KORPS
CHICAGO '08

I cannot photograph the bottom of the figure with my camera.

Speaking of this, can anyone full list them all, I know :

PM 1 Napoleon
PM 2 British Napoleonic
PM 10 Chicago 2007
PM 15 Chicago 2008 (is that the right number)
PM 18 Westcoaster 2009

that is my start off the top of my head, I wonder what they all are?

Tom

Tom,
There is a PM013 from last years Westcoaster and the one you have listed as PM015 should be PM014. These are on my website under the Specialty Sets section. I have not added the PM018 yet.
The other numbers in between are not figure sets but other promotional pieces like postcards. I have not gotten around to scanning them and listing them but I will soon.
I hope that helps.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

How are the rest numbered on the bottom ?

For what its worth and this is just my thought on the matter but I've never understood those who take these FREE gifts then turn around and sell them for profit just because they were fortunate enough to attend one of the events in which they were given out. I for one have in turn given my FREE gift to others that I know would appreciate it if I do not collect the range in which it was issued....some on here may speak to that fact since you have been given one of my FREE figures. I'm just not a fan when I see the FREE gift pop up on ebay the next day or placed on this forum for sale...and usually at a premium because it is a special FREE item that they were given as a gift of appreciation.

If you dont want it becuase the figure is not of interest to you then why dont you offer it as a gift, as it was intended, to a forum member that would appreicate it? Why do you have to try to turn a profit? In this time of profit and greed that we see in the news on a daily basis why do we have to let it creep into our nice little hobby? Sorry if this sounds preachy but it is something that has bothered me for some time now when the FREE gift figures are given out at the events.

I see both sides of it, as I have like them as a special figure (I collect the collector club figs the same way for their uniqueness), so I miss the Westcoaster and have a standing deal with a fellow collector to purchase the figure from him. SO, that part is good for me as it allows me to obtain it.

I do see the pleasure of giving one of them too or trading, etc.

It is a tough question as they have become quite valuable in trade or sale. One of those things that is probably always going to be to each his own and no wrong answer, just opinions.

Tom

Agreed Tom.....I think a trade would be a fair thing to do as well....its just the profiting from a free gift that was given to you just because you happened to be lucky enough to attend an event is what gets under my skin. My view is that you pay it forward alittle and if someone that got the free gift gave it to someone else then they too someday will get something they want back as a gift.....it all works out in the end. When I gave my free gift to a fellow forum member not an hour after I gave it to him he offered to help me to my car with dioramas I was hauling.....and i was thankful for it I assure you!

Very well put Warbuff. Between these free gifts, and limited edition senarios this only introduces speculation and profit. Regardless of the manufacturer.

For those that are in it for the profit, just look at financial wizards of wall street.

This is a hobby, enjoy it while your still alive. Share it with people who appreciate and live better for it.

Who is talking about selling Promo Figures ?

I started this thread to discuss how the wording has changed over the different releases and how the description was worded - which makes them unique.

My purpose was to point out the interesting fact that I found when looking over the "free" figures - yes, still in my collection - and share that observation. Certainly not to judge what other people do with their possessions !

Can I bring this discussion back around to what it was intended - please.

Why must some people always feel they have a right to control what other collectors choose to do? If you want to give as a gift.....why not just do it?

Some of us are not able to attend the shows, and try as we might we cannot obtain the figures no matter what solution we may offer. If another collector should offer the figures for sale we have the opportunity to bid or not as we so choose.

I was luck enough to obtain both figures from another collector at a very fair price. He carefully packaged them, and shipped them right out Priority Mail and used the funds to purchase a set he wanted.

A wonderful transaction that simply benefitted both collectors......of course
he didn't get to brag about "Giving them away".........small price to pay.

In my opinion.:)

Yes Ron you are quite right, but you know we always have to be instructed

in the "Proper" manor of being a collector.

Perhaps a book should be done........"Miss Manors Guide to Proper Collecting"

What do you think? You and I could write it.........:D:)

LOL :p

John - Sorry, I am not into telling other people what can or can't do with their toy soldier collections.

I AM INTO TALKING ABOUT KING & COUNTRY AND THEIR PROMO FIGURES - is there anyone else who would like to discuss how these guys seem to change or not ?

I think the "Free" figure is really a falsehood for the collector. Has anyone considered what it costs for most collectors to go to these shows where these "Free" figures are given out? Many at least pay for rooms for days, travel, some airfare, tell me what the actual cost of that "free" figure is when you consider the costs spent to get that figure?

Amen - Brother Ray - Amen

I apoligized for my rude "hijacking"...so get back to the topic at hand......

Here is the 2009 Westcoaster Figure - please look closely at the print on the bottom of the base of the figure - it differs from the 2008 Westcoaster Figure.
