Hello All,

New to the forum, and would appreciate your feedback.

I began an RAF collection not long ago and would like to create a bit of an airfield scene now that my collection has grown enough to support an effective look. I would like a Battle of Britain look. At the moment the K&C planes are a tad out of my price range (not a knock on the price, just saving my milk money to afford one). I am looking for a substitute to either start with or to help expand the dio. Do any of you have suggestions on other companies other than K&C that produce same scale planes, besides building and painting a model kit I am unaware of another alternative.

Thanks,

Cicci

Welcome to the forum Cicci
Forces of Valor has produced planes ( ans still does) in 1/32 scale, maybe these models can help
guy:)

It might at first appear a little different than what you are picturing but do not underestimate the impact of a well used backdrop sourced from the internet. There are a number of guys on the forum (Waynepoo/Western Outlaw/ WWIIbuff to name just three) who have used them to excellent effect. Unless the cheaper version of the aircraft is actually what you are after, it will delay your preferred purchase and it will always be coloured by its status as a 'stop gap' measure. In addition, as Bob (Fitzgibbon) always observes, if it is a good photograph you are after rather than a stand alone dio, scale is not an issue if you place it correctly.

Good to see another fan of aircraft on the Forum. Welcome.

Hello All,

Welcome to the forum, Cicci,

I recently saw a Defiant from another manufacturer that would work with a BoB display, but that's something of an exception. Also, it was made out of wood, rather than the material that KC uses. I should note that it was fairly expensive compared with most KC product. When you get right down to it, KC pretty much owns the 1/30 space when it comes to BoB/RAF model airplanes.

In looking for appropriate, less-expensive alternatives, what you'll find is almost exclusively 1/32 scale, diecast and plastic, pre-built or kits in the latter case. For the most part, the more that you're willing to pay, the better replica that you'll end up with. The shortcoming of this approach is that obvious scale issues will arise when you place 1/30 figures in immediate proximity to the model. This is particularly true of replicas of smallish types like a Bf-109 or even a Spitfire. The issues are generally less obvious with larger types, like the Hurricane. The scale issues will be less noticeable, mind you, but they'll still be discernible to the critical eye.

One way or the other, KC's BoB sets are a great range to collect. I know that you'll have a good time developing your scene. Don't be shy about posting pics, as everyone loves looking at the displays of other collectors.:D

I happily mix K&C figures with Corgi 1/32 scale aircraft. When making a display I place the figures in the foreground... I've got Moggy strolling away from his Spit, with daft dog in tow, and it looks spot on.

:salute::
