Just watched on DVD last night the made for TV movie Rough Riders.
Uniforms ok, but the story line was right out of 1930,s movies! Hokey!
My question is didn,t K&C make their Rough Rider Set because of this movie?
And I thought I heard somewhere that Andy delivered a set of his figures to some executive of the movie. is that correct?

Gary,

I think you are mixing up different lines. The D-Day line was inspired by and released to correspond with the release of "Saving Private Ryan", and Andy did send Steven Spielburg a set of DD01.

I don't know when the Rough Riders movie came out, but the figures were released in 1993, as a line designed at the request of and for the exclusive sale by Kings X, then one of K&C's biggest dealers.

Louis, didn,t Andy release 2 sets of Rough Riders?
I seen some of the first set he done several years ago at OTSN and didn,t buy any as I was new to K&C collecting and they were a bit different than the RR set that I had. So I wasn,t sure if they were actually K&C.
I later found out as you stated they were done for the Kings shop.
The RR movie was done in 97 or 98, just around the time the second set of RR,s were released.
You know far more than me about K&C,s history, but there still is something in the back of my mind telling me the second set did have something to do with the movie.

If you look at some of the early brochures, you see some of the glossy Rough Riders, which I just picked up. Later on, he did some matte Rough Riders, also very nice. I've never heard of any movie involving the Rough Riders, however.

Not to harp on this, but upon further review I thought the RR set, the matte one, was given to actor Tom Beringer, he played Teddy Roosevelt in the TNT made for TV movie.
Come on Andy help us out on this!

The last time I saw them in King's X was a few years ago, and I picked up a gloss trooper on horseback with the US flag. I should have bought more...

They are significant for King's X because that store is located in the lobby of the Menger Hotel in downtown San Antonio where TR recruited many of the Rough Riders. They then trained nearby in Fort Sam Houston.
