The greater concern is not the # of the tank, but having two with the same layout of bedspring 'applique' armour. The turret # can be handwaved away. The Soviets had hundreds of tank brigades, & they all had their own unique brigade identification. You could easily pass two or three K&C T-34's with the same number as being from the same brigade. Hypothetically, the # 236 could been code for 71st tank brigade. Everything was coded, not systematic. You can see the US Army & USMC doing the same thing on their AFV's. No two units have related symbology. Some German units did it this way throughout the whole war, with the practice becoming more common after Stalingrad.
