Mark,
Excellent question; I do this business full time and I basically work 12 hour days. By that I mean I answer phone calls, emails, process, pack and ship orders and paint scenery from 10:00am till 10:00pm seven days a week.
I try to work painting in between calls, emails and orders anytime during my work day.
The shows are a whole other matter, then tend to come in spurts, ie, nothing for three weeks, then maybe three over two weekends (two back to back as was the case several weeks ago with Delaware Friday and Saturday, Gettysburg on Sunday), etc, etc.
I actually use painting as a way to relax if you can believe it. I started painting scenery to have as displays on my tables; enough customers at shows wanted to buy the painted stuff to the point where I began to paint two or three of something and had extras at a show to sell.
Painted scenery now accounts for quite a bit of my sales...........
