During my recent trip to Gettysburg, my cousin and I hired one of the top notch tour guides available to take folks out onto the battlefield. We spent a great deal of time on the Union left down near Little Round Top, Devils Den, Houck's Ridge, the wheatfield, etc, etc and he did a superb job of laying out the Union defense of Little Round Top.

One of the units involved was the 83rd PA; they were to the left of the position in this order, right to left; 16th Michigan, 44th New York, 83rd PA and 20th Maine. I asked the guide what uniforms they wore during the campaign and his response was their Chasseur uniforms, the very same uniforms depicted by K & C.

The only reason I point this out is several people at the recent shows I have attended informed me they are not interested in these figures because they are depicted in a uniform that was only worn for short period of time; not true.

Kudos to the K & C team for offering these figures. The men of the 83rd PA along with the 16th MI, 44th NY and 20th ME saved the Union left that day and perhaps saved the Union as well; had they failed, the entire Union left flank would have caved in, the Confederates would have won the day and perhaps the war as a result..............

Hi Guys,

A big thank you to my good friend George (Warrior) for pointing this out. As George alludes to some people in the hobby will be down on you whatever you do!!!

When we (K&C) were considering what Union unit to portray there were a whole host to choose from…. bog-standard infantry… colourful Zouaves… Iron Brigade… and so on and so forth. Well, we thought let’s try something that, perhaps, hopefully has not been seen before… Union Chasseurs!

Once we did a few we liked ‘em and said let’s do more. And so we did. Again, we were trying to do something ‘a little out of the box’ as you might say. But as we all know in this wonderful little hobby of ours… you definitely won’t please all of the collectors… all of the time.

Thanks again George and best wishes to one and all,

Andy C.

Andy you'll be pleased to know I took one of the figures with me to show him and he was blown away by how nice it was, he stopped by the show and bought several of them as a matter of fact. He told me to tell you job well done..............

I had to have the 83rd flag bearer as soon as it came out. I love regimental flags, and K&C did a nice job with the very attractive Pennsylvania flag - one I had never seen done in matte (surprisingly).

I bought mine on my most recent trip to Gettysburg (I think they had just come in a day or so before). Interestingly, the same issue about the chausseur uniform was discussed between the toy soldier shop owner and me. He said he and another guy had researched it to make sure it was correct and found it to be true. One of the best things I see in Civil War figures right now is the new trend toward depicting the many variations of uniform. We went so long without a lot of choice in zouaves, chausseurs, Berdan Sharpshooters, and other variations. Before, Frontline seemed to be the only one doing much of these guys in matte, and now there are increasingly more choices.

Now, I want to see someone produce Gettysburg structures. I think it would be tremendous to have the cemetery gatehouse, McPherson's barn, and a true low wall for The Angle (I have seen about every wall but this one!). K&C did a great job with Burnside Bridge - why not a gatehouse?

Great points all around; would love to see more of the Union Zouave units depected; the 114th PA, which bore the brunt of Barksdale's charge into Sickles position near the peach orchard or the 146th NY, which helped defend the eastern slope of Little Round Top and fought in the Wilderness Campaign.

Structures would be great too, any of the farms around Gettysburg would do fine.........

I recently finished completed the 83 PA troops and am busy finishing off the Confederates. These are great figures and the sculpting is top notch, some of the best of all the K & C ranges, and am looking forward to what K & C will produce for ACW early next year.
