During my recent trip to Gettysburg, my cousin and I hired one of the top notch tour guides available to take folks out onto the battlefield. We spent a great deal of time on the Union left down near Little Round Top, Devils Den, Houck's Ridge, the wheatfield, etc, etc and he did a superb job of laying out the Union defense of Little Round Top.
One of the units involved was the 83rd PA; they were to the left of the position in this order, right to left; 16th Michigan, 44th New York, 83rd PA and 20th Maine. I asked the guide what uniforms they wore during the campaign and his response was their Chasseur uniforms, the very same uniforms depicted by K & C.
The only reason I point this out is several people at the recent shows I have attended informed me they are not interested in these figures because they are depicted in a uniform that was only worn for short period of time; not true.
Kudos to the K & C team for offering these figures. The men of the 83rd PA along with the 16th MI, 44th NY and 20th ME saved the Union left that day and perhaps saved the Union as well; had they failed, the entire Union left flank would have caved in, the Confederates would have won the day and perhaps the war as a result..............
