I just watched "The Ten Commandments"...it's an tv Easter tradition...every year it on...

kind of like Christmas and "It's A Wonderful Life"...or "A Christmas story"...

all 3 great shows...

anyway...

I noticed so many things in the movie...that were so similar to the K&C Ancient Egypt series...(that I just started collecting)...that I had to wonder if Andy used the movie as a reference in sculpting some the diorama pieces in this series...

the facade was a pretty close replica...shape and deminsions...even with the chariots carved in the front of it...when I saw it...I couldn't help but think of my AE display...

the chariots they rode...pretty darn similar in painting...the feathers on the horses heads...the bow and arrows in the same place...

the pair of Sphinxs were pretty similar too...but I'm guessing they are pretty accurate from any research...

I don't have a problem if that's where K&C got their inspiration...in fact...if it is...I think it's pretty cool...the movie was made in 1956...a year before I was even born...I don't think there are any copyright or trademark infringements on the use of their Hollywood props as a model...so I don't think K&C has broken any rules...I was just curious if they used the movie props as a base for their scuplts...it was a little uncanny...

Andy...any comments...?

here's some pics...draw your own conclusions...

the cartoon is just a bonus...^&grin

There are dancing girls in the movie? ^&grin

Maybe just this once Hollywood did some research and got it right and Andy and K&C also looked in the right history books or scrolls. :)
Wayne.

I think andy has said from my reading of the old threads in this forum and, in collector mags etc he has inspiration from many movies for ranges. sometimes it works sometimes it does not

Many of us get our inspiration from watching a favorite movie, a book or magazine or "many times" a work of art.

I would wager a box of Paddlepop sticks there are a dozen or more dioramas based on a favorite painting, (for example) especially in the Napoleonic’s series.

I seem to remember that our Aussie friends have done a few spectacular dios on paintings from the Boor War.

Conte based their entire AWI series on the movie “The Patriot” (An unfortunate mistake because the movie was so much fantasy and not fact). :(

An inspiration for all or our FIW friends is the movie “Last of the Mohicans” or the movie “Gettysburg” for the Civil War guys.
So, I believe, Mike, that you are spot on with the “Ten Commandments”; also a must watch in my house!

I think there were dancing girls in the movie! I just rewatched it for the first time in ages recently, but I could be getting it mixed up with Cleopatra, which I also watched a few months ago. Whatever the inspiration, I just love the Egyptian range, dancing girls and all.

Where ever Andy has found his inspiration for AE, I wish he would re-visit it and do some more new releases. This is such a colourful and interesting series which started me in this hobby some 5 years ago. Cheers, Robin.
