Must say it really does feel like a golden age right now. The range and quality that K&C produce just gets bigger and better every month. Just look at what we've seen from them in recent months. As mainly a WW2 collector (apart from Crimean)I've been given Arnhem, including figures,a vehicle, descending paras etc,D Day including a much requested Firefly and more US Figures,German sub and Naval figures,Desert buildings,P51's to name a few.

On top of this and from my own perspective a simply superb Battle of Britain/RAF range. For me this range is the Mutts nuts. In this 70th Anniversay year we have Hurricanes (forthcoming Spits/ME 109's;))Pilots and ground crew that give quality and real depth to this range. As someone who has a lifelong interest and a strong pride in the Victory the RAF won, this range perhaps means more to me than any other. (no offence to D Day or Arnhem;):D)

And finally on top of all this Andy has now given us a great wave of ACW Union releases that will no doubt push me into collecting that conflict and push my credit card up a bit further.

I cannot imagine another company that can produce so much stuff that I personally would love to have at one time. And even though I can never afford to buy everything I'd like, I sure am one very happy collector.

Just my thoughts guys.

Sounds like you quite like the look of this company Rob. I'd strongly suggest you pick up a couple of their pieces. I don't think you'll be dissappointed. ;)

Sorry Simon,I do get enthusiastic about stuff, but I feel in this day and age when we all moan about so many things in our day to day lives (politics, weather, prices, bloody make over tv progs)its good to accentuate the positive now and again;)

So much for rose coloured optimism. :D At times I feel like the hobby has gotten out of control with simply too much choice. At first, several years ago, I could get what I wanted and had to wait patiently for the steady but slow pace of new issues. Then I had to focus on only a few ranges as there was just too much coming out from too many manufacturers. Not enough money and not enough space. Now I am having to make very hard decisions on what to buy and what to keep. It used to be that if it was in a range I got it. Now I look at a new piece and say do I need another one of X? Do I really like the piece. And the very difficult what piece must go to make room for it.

Is the glass half full or half empty - it feels like the glass is overflowing

Each to their own of course Terry, but I just don't look at it like that. The scope of choice is superb these days. There are dozens and dozens of History books I'd like to read but I can't buy them all at once, there are many Holiday destinations to choose from but it can only be one or two a year,we have wide choice of food, cars, entertainment etc,it is as some kids say 'its all good'.

If (most of us who are not lottery winners)can just get past the 'I want and can afford it all' attempt at collecting it becomes much easier, and I find my collection is full of stuff I really wanted and appreciate, maybe its for this reason I never sell anything on ebay,I buy what I really want and I buy to keep.:)

There is definitely an embarassment of riches for collectors today. I have to agree with Rob that this is the golden age of the hobby. The incredible selection offered by K&C, as well as its progeny Figarti, Honour Bound, and FL, as well as the pre-existing companies who have been reborn in K&C's matt, more detailed, 1:30 scale image, make collectors today spoiled for choice.

In fact, the only problem with collecting today is self control. Economic and spacial restraints, rather than restraints based on availability, are the limiting factors. The complaints voiced by Terry reflect the need to restrain one's desires and limit one's self, rather than have limits imposed by the manufacturers.

Having too much choice and having to impose self restraint is a great position to be in. I'd rather have that "problem" than have little choice and little great product to choose from! Now if only that product was more affordable..... :(

'Self restraint' as collectors we shouldn't have to even understand the meaning of the term;)

I agree that there are lots of great choices today from K&C and all the others as well, and to me that's a good thing. It forces me to pick and choose though, but that in itself is good and makes me appreciate even more the pieces I do wind up choosing.

I for one am very glad of the choices of companies/different campaigns to collect as well Rob, to have a wonderful hobby that is not going anywhere, only growing is a great thing, but I have learned a valuable lesson this past year is.. don't go overboard with your hobby, it had become more of a obsession with me then a hobby I guess, lesson learned, life is good again:)...Sammy

Really glad you got it sorted Sammy, when a hobby takes over to a detrimental effect it is indeed time to bail, hope things are a lot better now.

Guys, when I talked of a Golden age I was in this case referring to K&C.There is of course a golden age in which many producers are involved, but in this case I'm asking you guys to consider the sheer amount of quality product K&C are producing right now,we may have grown used to this but its still an awesome achievement month after month:cool:

Rob...

Its refreshing to see others who are as passionate about what we did in WWII and, the battle of Britain for me, was the turning point and from that we won the war and, this year especially, though not exclusively, we must not forget that point.

We are in a 'golden age' its not just for me, the amount of companies we have but, that everyone has upped the anty so, to speak, in the quality and diversity available, Landing craft tanks, railway guns, to name but a few and we are only in may for the prolific release schedule from K&C.

I am fortunate that I have a wife who likes collecting as much as I do and, more often than not I am trying to make money and, she is trying to give it all back to K&C.

I think we will be in this era for many years to come as the hobby has weathered the storm that has hit the economy and, will only get better. Price will always be a concern but, we are getting some fantastic pieces at the moment and, sadly, in terms of quality you get what you pay for. It would be lovely to have it cheaper but, I think its only going in one direction.

The hobby in my humble opinion will only get better in the next few years and it must be hard for the manufactures to know what to rtelease next.

Well said Mitch, fully agree. It says on K&C's flyer that the RAF range is dedicated to Fighter command during the Battle of Britain and how appropriate that is.So much depended on those young men and their victory over the much trumpeted Luftwaffe.

This year we will see everything from tv progs to stamps to many many books and memorial services all over the country,it really is our time to remember.(even if these books and models will cost me an arm and a leg!;))

As you say it looks like the hobby has weathered the storm and is coming out the other side, this can only be good for us collectors, its getting exciting again in this hobby!

Mitch,if you can ever make it down to London for one of the shows it would be great to have you join us in the bar for one of our UK Treefrogger get togethers.

Rob...

Thanks will more than likely be going to the Dec one. I have such an interest in the BOB as my grandfather was a pilot in fighter command so, grew up on his stories and albums etc. No other period of the war is as interesting and, as a regular at Elvington airfield (a bomber base) you bump into old 'heroes' from Bomber command and fighter command and, they just humble you with their nonchalant manner.

I have a friend who works for the History channel and from what he has said you may need to have plaenty of space on the hard drive or discs/tapes for what is coming up for the anniversary.

Best Wishes
Mitch

Wow you must be very proud of him,and rightly so.

The December show is by far the best, great atmos and evening get together.

Right I'd better start deleting some of the wife's progs;)

All the best

Rob

The golden age of K&C for sure Rob,the new figures being released each month are getting better and better ,more action poses would be good ,especially the new Das Reich figures, would have been great if they had depicted dismounted Tankmen but as someone who likes to build dioramas it is pleasing that many different and varied poses are /will be available to make more interesting dios, dead and dying would add some spice. Ken

Totally agree on all the above comments, we are certainly living in a "Golden period" for the hobby. Hopefully with all this choice and quality a somewhat younger generation will be drawn in. Hopefully try and bribe my 9 year old son (but not the wife:eek:) into coming down to the June London Show.

At present awaiting the Firefly, the Crimea and the Tiger (anyone else getting that?) and then I have Sudan and the Zulu War for the rest of the year. There have been some hard choices this year already but it is part of the fun:D.

Otto and his sub have been sunk by the new Crimean figures.

My one wish for a new release would be the NW frontier (maybe even glossy?), as I don't believe this has been carried by any other maker.

Otherwise looking forward to what the rest of the year brings (Figarti vehicles, Britains and JJD colonial included).

Very True.....Although I am glad we have choices....Many manufacturers are producing excellent items....K/C, Figarti and First legion....I find I must be really selective about what I purchase and how to direct my collection.....I try not to get "too spread out" in various subjects and ranges....so that my collection is focused....I find it to be more enjoyable that way....and easier to afford ;)

I started off in this hobby determined to focus, that went out the window pretty quick and I collected in a scatter gun way for quite sometime. Now it seems to have come full circle and I have somehow started to manage to just collect from the few ranges I really like the most, how long this will last I'm not sure:rolleyes:
