With the anniverary of Katrina comes many reflections as well as feelings of gratitude. Thanks to all across the country and world wide for your support and aide in our rebuilding efforts. Your prayers and geniune concern after the storm are remembered today.

I hope another disaster such has Katrina does not happen again. I know many people contributed towards relief in the form of money or work. Thanks for posting. Was thinking about you and wondered if you were still in the area. Leadmen

I saw a news report on Katrina this morning where they said only 50% of the original population of New Orleans have retuned to the city. They also showed film of another Southern US city currently battening down the hatches for another storm.

I guess we are lucky in Australia that we don't seem to have the excessive destructive weather of some places. However a Hurricane named cyclone Tracy virtually flattened the Northern Territory capital Darwin on Christmas day in 1974. People soon returned to rebuild the city and adapted by building new more appropriate homes where storm surges etc couldn't reach. Hopefully some good will also come out of Katrina for future occupants in New Orleans etc.

My wife and I were fortunate to have spent 10 days in 2004 visiting New Orleans, various plantations and the Mississippi Gulf Coast before Katrina changed so much. After Katrina, I spent the entire month of October working as a Red Cross volunteer out of the Baton Rouge HQ. Although I lived in a shelter with 70 to 100 other volunteers and ate more than my share of red beans and rice, it was an experience that I will never forget. I wish all of you who have suffered so much, nothing but the best.
