I could have sworn that I've seen small buildings, palm trees etc. for King and Country's WWII North Africa sets - Afrika Corps/8th Army. Treefrog even goes so far as to show "suggested dioramas" for them (I can find the one for the AK, but not the 8th).

Alas, all I see available online is the oasis well. Before I go posting on the collector's classifieds, I thought I'd ask if these pieces existed, and if so, what their model #s are, are they retired, where I might look etc. Or if these were custom pieces.

They all seem like they'd double with my modern Middle East figures, or even have a triple use with my Ancient Egyptians.

Slighly off topic - there are some really nice Arab pieces in the WWII collection on both sides. It's my goal someday to have some scenes from the Israeli War of Independence, which followed so closely on the heels of WWII in 1958. Although I'm not sure what troops would work as the Israelis...the British?

Mark,

I think the buildiings you might be referring to are some of the Dept. 56 pieces that K&C use a lot in their displays. Most have been retired some time, but do show up on ebay on a fairly regular basis.

Barszo did some North African buildings (1/32) in their Shores of Trippoli range, again, retired, but if you can dind them, they could also potentially work for modern era dios.

Monroe Perdu Designs do a range of North African resin dio pieces, aimed at 1/35, which are very nicely done and these are currently available, albeit you have to accept a slight scale difference, and they will require minimal assembly and painting.

If you're willing to have a go at making stuff yourself, you could get some styrofoam and knock up some Iraq buildings. Due to the straight forword 'box' shape of a lot of the buildings, it's a good pplace to start and works out pretty cheaply.

Most if not all of the desert buildings K&C uses in their "dramatic diorama" displays are from the Dept 56 Village of Bethlehem/Holy Land range which was all retired by 2005/2006. Most are still readily available on eBay and Dept 56 collector web sites. If you are very patient you can still get them for a reasonable price. I have used alot of these same buildings and palm trees and other accessories in my Crusader dioramas with very pleasing results.

The Dept 56 was a good suggestion guys, thanks.

What's in the background of these pictures (particularly the first) are exactly what I'm looking for. I figure someone at Treefrog should know what these are, since they put them on the site:)

The building is Dept 56 and the palm trees I believe are from J.G. Miniatures.
