Hi all

After seeing and being in awe of Gordon's latest huge dessert diorama in collector 31, I wanted to see if this style of dessert village wall could be re-created. I have a few of the village pieces and would like to build a few of my own unique ones. After a little experimenting, I think I have found a solution - 5.5mm styrofoam sheet (www.antenocitisworkshop.com), scored with a blunt pencil to create the bricks in relief. I then painted over with a wet polyfilla mix to seal it and add texture and then used acrylic paint. Probably could do with a clear sealer on top next (Games Workshop do a good one). I still need to work on the colours and textures (this was a very rough 30 minute attempt), but it IS possible to recreate something similar to Gordon's diorama walls, relatively simply and quickly....

I hope to start on a building in the next week or two and will post a step-by-step report. Now it's time to work out a layout and design. There are some great unique dessert pieces in Collector 31 so I might shamelessly nick a few ideas from that!

Cheers

very nice effort. I build walls and buildings using this material all the time . A little painting advise - just to help- you should highlight with a lighter colour the wall where bricks and plaster meet. This will bring your bricks even more to the surface .Keep up the good effort. Very well done

Thanks Guy - I appreciate the comments and tips. I'll definately give that a go. Your dioramas are truly impressive and I always enjoy seeing your diorama pictures. Thanks again :)

Nice work Jameson!!...Guy"s tip for Highlighting..(read Drybrushing) will indeed improve your walls even more....Not too sure though about nicking Gordons idea"s, lets hope he does"nt have a patent out on his stuff..if so can i have a ticket for the Court Case!!!!!.

Very good effect Jameson!!... You also just gave me a chore for next weekend: I'll risk myself into trying to get something like that done too...

Very effective indeed. That sort of thing would make a great backdrop in my shallow cabinets.
