King and Country in Oz and new Lighthorse and new building (1 Viewer)

Hi Guy's .What can I say but what a lucky bloke I am. I had a great night at the K&C dinner in Brisbane and then won first prize. The toy soldier gods were looking after me again last night. Or maybe this is just another one of my Chinese whispers. Really thou you should of been there it was fantastic. When my name was pulled out to win by none other then Andy himself the whole place erupted into applause and cheers. The women were crying and policemen were turning in there badges as I excepted the great gift of a diorama by Gorden of k&C. All I really wanted was the prize of the ambulance that the little boy at my table won. But do you think he would swap with me, no way .So I would like to take this time out to say a big thank you to Andy and the beautiful Helen for such a great prize that was donated. And a big thank you to Brett and his lovely wife for putting a great dinner together. Come to think about it I didn't think I was going to get a invite at all. But greater powers were at hand here and having such a covert role in the King & Country company I was odds on to win. But that is another Chinese whisper. Your loving friend and diorama owner .Simmo.

Hi Simmo,
owning a diorama base made by Gordon himself is quite a treat :)
Congratulations to this great win and if possible let's see some photos once you put it to use.

Wow...my thoughts are this:

-Kudos to K&C for taking a risk on a unique line like this. I hope it pays off for them big time.

-The Desert Village was a genius release. It's incredible the amount of diorama possibilities it offers for so many different eras and conflicts.

-I spoke to a retailer who remained nameless who said that they thought K&C produced the best cavalry figures. With no disrespect to other manufacturers - I love WB's WWI Cuirassiers, for instance - I have to agree.

I write comic books and graphic novels, and so spend a great deal of time working with talented professional artists. I know from them that among the hardest things to draw - let alone sculpt - are horses.

What Andy has done with the Australian Light Horse, Confederate Cavalry and recent Crusader releases is simply astounding. They are such works of art that I ventured into lines I don't normally collect because they were too well sculpted to pass up.

-There may be something to Simmo's Chinese Whispering powers after all;) Seriously, congrats on winning the dio, mate.

Arnhem mate,
Photos of the new building have been sent to Brad for posting. Full report on the dinner Q&A session and more photos to follow soon.
Cheers Howard

Hi Brett, sounds like another successful K&C visit to Oz, sorry I couldn't make it to Brisbane this time around.

The new Light Horse figures look excellent!

Was there a special figure produced for the visit and if so details please (and perhaps a photo?).

Adrian

Sorry for the delay but I'm swamped today. Anyway here are the photos. I can tell you I want one of these and it may be time to buy the whole village

Guys,
Thanks for the report and Brad, thanks for posting the pics. That building is a must on the list. Really liking how the desert village is panning out.

These lighthorse look excellent!! May consider getting a few. And then I will have an excuse to buy the desert village buildings.

Hi Guys,
Thanks to Howard for the images of the Mosque/Temple. One point I forgot to mention is the add on minaret !!! Andy mentioned there will a 12" tall minaret piece that can go on top on the new building on left side (see Howards 1st photo).
Please forgive our historical mistake. Everybody should know that "Mad Jock Mactavish" was not a Beersheba.
Adrian, if you look carefully in the 2nd picture of the new building you will see the figure in the background. Andy gave all attendees at the dinner the British Navy figure that was the same as given at West Coast Dinner.
Now to put on my ex Police hat on. I just wish to correct Simmo's comment about loud applause and cheering when he won the diorama. More like loud wailing, exclamations of disbelief and calls for a re-draw !!!! Just kidding. Actually a few hours before the dinner Simmoi was in the shop talking to OzDigger about the fun he would have on the forum if he won.
Regards
Brett

Howard has sent me a few more photos to post :)

That is Simmo shaking hands with Andy after Andy drew out his name for the diorama.

Note the The Military Workshop "sand mat" on the diorama which is plain brown paper.

Also in the diorama are JG Miniatures S45 rocks with desert shrub, S46 desert rock set, S46C desert shrub, S46E Desert Talus and JGM50 Munitions boxes (all available from Treefrog and other dealers who stock JG). Of these JG items my favourite is S45 rocks with scrub as it is a great little set for Turks or WWII North Africa figures to be placed behind. The ammo boxes are also very useful for many displays.

Looks like a good shot of the back of my balding head (thanks Howard !!!).

Regards
Brett

More mind-blowing trivia from our dinner.
Just looked at another photo and you can see back of Simmo's head (think Telly Savalas) and to the right of him is OzDigger's head (white shirt). In the same photo is the back of Jackaroo's head (wearing black shirt). A handsome lot aren't we ?
Regards
Brett
PS I forgot to thank Simmo and Oz for helping take stuff to and from the dinner venue. Thanks guys. Amazingly nothing went missing.
PSS Howard, don't forget the photo of Andy and Helen with the 1/1 scale prototype Lighthorseman !!!

Hey guys,
This is a very high tec forum ! I just typed in a four letter word beginning with D and ending in M and it automatically converted it to as below.
Not trying to be offensive so apologies if anybody does not like my language.
