I have recently completed my D Day wave of Brit and Canadian releases (I posted a pic but its been moved)with the final two figures I needed. It made me wonder how many of you have the discipline to stick to your plan to get the whole range,or do you deviate as other stuff is released.

Apologies to anyone who does not collect K&C,but this is the K&C area and I'd like to hear the views of my fellow collectors.

I have most of the AK and 8th Army and Fields of Battle ranges, many of the D-Day and WS ranges and all of the 2nd group of Russian pieces (Fall of Berlin). Also most of the Battle of the Bulge pieces. My focus is on AFVs and fighting soldiers - no marching or parade pieces. I have all the ones I want from those ranges except one old Krupp truck. So I will not complete entire ranges and unless I like every piece in a sub-range, I will not have any completed sub-ranges either. My concentration is now even more focused on new releases of AFVs in those ranges plus the Italian army.

My problem is how to continue resisting Napoleonics and the new Sons of the Empire series. :(

Here is my original post on the subject, for what it's worth.

It depends how you define a range Roberto. I don't believe the British and Canadians constitute a range, just a subset within the D Day range. Collecting all within that range is very difficult.

I do have almost all of the EA range (except for the Churchill set and the associated band, etc.; just didn't seem to go with the remainder of that range).

Don't know if Nelson's Navy or Royal Navy counts but I have all that :)

A few years back before Andy decided to make the amount of product that he makes now, collecting a range wasn't that all difficult; it's quite hard now.

Rob,

I've been a K&C collector for several years now and have mainly collected WWII ranges. I have ventured into some Alamo, Crusaders, and American Revolution ranges as well, but on a much smaller scale. As far as the WWII sub ranges go, I've mostly gotten Bulge, DDay, Eigth Army, IWJ, FOB, Afrika Korps, and WS series. I have not completed a sub range/range. I missed out on some of the early sets (especially DDay) that I wish I had. Speaking of DDay sets, I've just gotten several of the newer figures sets in and think I might post some pictures of them tonight... I have an idea:eek:

Assuming this is not just a WWII question Rob I have all but one of the K&C Confederate range; many multiples of their Alamo range and a few -just those that fitted my required scenarios-of the ACW Union figures.

Now the sum totals of these ranges do not even begin to scratch the surface of the many and variable WWII series plus vehicles that all of you guys collect resulting in my mathematical equation vs discipline easily resolved.

The problem I'm struggling with is that I like the horses in the Real West series for example this one:-

This is a perfect pose for a wounded horse and I have nothing like it in my stash. But a very simple conversion with the arrow removed and the saddle furniture converted/painted in a ACW livery and bingo it becomes a fallen Reb pony. I personally have no interest in collecting this series (as good as it is). But I'm sorely tempted to purchase a couple of those nags for the Civil War. So do I shell out the bucks just for the wounded and rearing steeds or not? Currently it's testing my self discipline to the limit

Here is a repeat of my answer that was moved to another section of the forum.

"Short answer is NO I'm not a completist. If interested a long winded answer follows.
I think Andy said it best in a recent post. I'll paraphrase here but essentially he said collecting can be difficult if you like a wide variety of historical periods............unfortunately for me I do!
I would say I have a figure or two from just about every K&C range. The areas that I have concentration in are the Napoleonics, Crusaders and some WWII periods. I also occasionally dabble in some outside manufacturers for very unique pieces to "fill in" my collection.
In WWII I concentrate on Commonwealth troops and I have a lot of FOB, Arnhem, D-Day etc. I do also have a lot of Bulge and Germans to oppose the Allies ( can't resist those Panzers ). The only major omission are the desert troops and so far I've stayed strong otherwise my collection would grow out of proportion.
I don't feel the need to be a completist. I buy what I like and can afford and unfortunately thats still a ton of merchandise. The closest range I am to being a completist in is Arnhem ( not the originals ). Very little in this range doesn't appeal to me. All I'm missing are a few Polish para's and yes I'm very much looking forward to upcoming releases. I fear I'll also be close to a completist in the RAF and USAAF lines in the near future."

I collect mostly K&C WW2. I have most of the EA & AK ranges. Most of the new Arnhem plus some of the old Arnhem and some of the DD range. I will get all of the RAF, FOB, USAF eventually. I also have some of the BOB stuff really like that Hetzer tank. I have alot of WS especially tanks. The range that got me started and the one I have almost complete is LAH. I only need a few of the early sets and I will have it all. May take some time but will be nice once it is complete. Oh I forgot I have the Fall of Berlin range almost complete. I am qucikly running out of room:eek:

Rob

You best get the .. "Seizing of the Colors" soon before its retired :p Then perhaps, you will also need a couple more of the Scots Grey & maybe a few French Grenadiers to make a small dio .. Heh :D

Me .. I stick to the 18th & 19th century FIW, AWI, ACW and naturally the NAPs. ACW being the latest expansion .. because of the beautiful Reb cavalry pieces released last year.

I have been sorely tempted by WWII's BOB (winter clothing) and the new RAF/ USAF sets. However, for now .. I have to rely on Corgi, Dragon & Hobby Master for my WWII fix.

Best wishes

I have been collecting metal toy soldiers for 10 years and only Napoleonics. This is the only period I am interesting in from a collector perspective. I am not trying to collect all K&C items produced for that period but only the ones I like and who complete nicely other companies' production for that era. I have overall ~300 figures from at least 5 makers. I only buy very detailed and well painted toy soldiers and K&C is definitely part of the few companies who meet my quality and style bars :)

I have no discipline at all. Ask the Halls at Sierra. I also suffer? from ADHD. It is like....oh look! a pretty color!! What er, I was saying?

I for one am an eclectic collector.
I have a great deal of Napoleonic stuff. Less the Russians.
A lot of American Rev.
Almost all of the WWII vehicles.
Some western and CivilWar.
And..I'm going for the RAF and USAF stuff.
I great Icon of the collecting world,Ed Ruby once told me...
" I'm not a collector any more.A collector implies you could get everythig you want in your hobby. I now call myself an accumulator!"

As a new collector of K&C of Battle of Bulge, I strictly only collect combat sets, I plan on getting the new 105 field gun and add on sets, the M3A2, Jagdpanzer IV, and all the other new German battle sets, and I'm also in the process of picking up all the older Bulge releases. These will all be going to my 30" X 48" Assault on Foy diorama I'm in the process of building.

On another note, I may actually stray into buying the new 82nd paratroopers, as my father was a member of the 82nd and participated in their last combat jump in Panama '89.:) So the 82nd is near and dear in my heart.

Also with the new Market Garden releases coming up I'm really hoping for American paratroopers!:D If not, then I will be definately be buying some of the China USMC/USN figures and be building a Wake Island diorama of sorts.

Best Regards,
Vick
