I know that this question comes up from time to time (I've received a few emails about it) and chips is something we all have a problem with so I went to the source to ask about the possibility of touch up paint being issued.

Andy's reply is as follows:

It’s not really possible or commercially viable-the factories make up their own paints and don’t keep extra stocks. Also there are so many paints out there on the market already that if a collector does have a “chip” to deal with. I always suggest they do what we do at Head Office and the shop in Hong Kong. We use “off the shelf” Tamiya or Games Workshop paints to “mix ‘n’ match” the relevant area. It works pretty well and none of our customers have complained so far.

dear brad ,
this may be a generic question or just a question as to where there is a local store, but who sells Tamiya or Games Workshop paimts?
thanks

You got me Harvey, that's out of my league. There is a model store on Route 46 in Kenvil however.

If you live near one of the HobbyTown USA franchises they generally stock the Tamiay line of paint.

Personally I haven't had especially good results from handbrushing Tamiya acrylics, but have been able to do adequate touch up with PollyScale and Testors acrylics hobby paints. I generally mix "by eye" to match the chipped area.

Biggest touch up so far - my M4A3 with 105 howitzer had a busted gun mount when I received it. I fixed the mount and then did touch up around the gun mount.

Tamiya paints can be bought at any hobby shop or online. They can be a little tricky to brush paint. Games Workshop can be bought at some malls or online also. It will be a little hard to match paint because they use fantasy names. I use Vallejo paints which paint very easy and found that the colors match.

dear fellow forum members.your suggestions are much appreciated
but where do you find either"vallejo paints" or "humbrol enamels"?

Online or local hobby shops. I bought my Vallejo paint set of 72 paints on ebay.

dear steve many thanks for your info.now i can stop using my daughters old elementary watercolor paints for touch ups.
