KING & COUNTRY Dispatches -- April 2018 (2 Viewers)

G. ‘SEPTEMBER 1, 1939’
For the second time in this month’s DISPATCHES we are returning to the beginning of the war in Poland... To the actual day war broke out when the Germans put into action ‘FALL WEISS’ (Case White)... the invasion of Poland.

WH084 “Breaking The Barrier”
Three German soldiers grasp the frontier barrier and attempt to break it... Although it might be easier simply to lift it, these three want to destroy it!

WH086 “Cutting Down the Polish Road Sign”
In another gesture of military vandalism a German soldier takes an axe to cut down the Polish border sign.

AVAILABLE: Mid-Late April

These look pretty good, very niche, but will we be seeing another version for the French invasion?

For me it is only the European Germans, think the other ranges do look great, but not of interest and do not have the funds/space for anymore ranges.

Still not sure about the AK ‘RAMCKE BRIGADE’, they look great but there is something I cannot put my finger on, but would rather collect other figures, have all the other AK sets and EA sets, but will wait on these.

Yes I have limited funds and space too, but I'll be picking up the remaining Ramcke troops, as the desert is my main interest area.
What do you have concerns over with these AK troops, be interested to hear ?

Milady is amazing! She's a must have. I've been looking forward to her ever since you mentioned sketching her and she doesn't disappoint! Very happy with this one!

E. On we journey from the palaces and streets of 17th Century France to the Wild West of 19th Century America... with four interesting figures for ‘The Real West’...

TRW129 “First Sergeant Rutledge”
Another of director John Ford’s classic US Cavalry figures. This black NCO is based on a leading character in Ford’s 1960 Movie “Sergeant Rutledge” starring Woody Strode in the title role.
Here Rutledge stands ready for action, his US ‘Army’ Colt revolver in hand. He will fit nicely together with the other K&C ‘Buffalo Soldiers’.

TRW130 “Lieutenant Cantrell”
Another character in the movie is a white Cavalry officer portrayed by Jeffrey Hunter.
The K&C figure leaps into action firing his revolver at some attacking Indians.
Seems this new range of cavalrymen have straps wider than the "Little Big Horn" series, is not it?

O boy O boy, This girl is a must have.

And the The Stretcher Party of course!!!!!!!!!

Harrie😁👍

I think I get Walsingham’s concerns.

I have bought all the Folgore, but have held off on this Ramcke brigade.

At the risk of being shot down, - for just some honest thoughts from a long standing collector..

There seems to be a subtle lack of detail in some of the figures (Ramke and Folgore) unlike other K&C ranges, perhaps to save production costs?

A lot of the figures have rolled up sleeves, thus negating the need for cuff detail. Also, none are wearing watches?

As per previous posts, decals for insignia and rank are not prominent.

The fine figure of the Folgore grenade thrower is based on a famous photograph. The photograph clearly shows the grenade thrower to be a sergeant, but the Folgore figures do not have any rank decals?

They are good figures which I now have on display, but I would have been willing to pay for more detail.

I do like, and will order the Ramcke figure.

Thanks for your interesting comments, yes I understand your points, and decals on the helmets would have been welcome I certainly agree. A lot of period photos have the Ramcke troops in short sleeves so maybe that has been part of the motive too ? The latest releases look very much like a picture by Artist Ron Volstad of FJ's in Sicily, for box art on a Dragon 1/35 model set ! I very much like the lifelike poses though, even if the Ramcke figure doesn't look much like Ramcke ( more like Rudolf Witzig ) but is more useful as an officer figure as he looks.
Yes the Folgore are excellent , with great sculpts ( although the kneeling figure firing Beretta smg is rather too small and out of scale) and the grenade thrower does look excellent too...I think that classic photo is actually of a Guastatore soldier, of the 8th, who fought alongside Folgore at El Alamein.

Andy:

Nice release yet again.

2 Questions:

  1. The USMC Stretcher set - Is the 4 man + stretcher separate pieces or one piece set?
  2. Will King & Country soon be releasing more USMC armor or other vehicles (e.g.) Sherman tanks, Higgins boats, LVT's?

Thank you,

Carlos

In regard to Marine set, all separate figures, the stretcher is shown on K&C site, resting on the back of a jeep. I am hoping I can also substitute the stretcher with the draped flag, being carried by the 4 Marines. Will know by the end of the month. Robin.

I have a blasphemous question: is the Marine uniform similar enough to the Army uniform of the period that the set could be repainted to portray an Army stretcher party? I am an Army medical officer and there is a real lack of four-man stretcher sets, so I would love to have someone convert the stretcher and some of the other medical sets to represent my unit.

For a long time, well, relatively that is :wink2:, I was waiting for Milady de Winter.
This morning it was a great pleasure to see her released and I’m most satisfied with the way she came out.
I love that pose {bravo}}

Love the new German figure. Great combat pose. Hope we see more in the future.

Certainly the IDF Half Track.....would love to get more than one. Would Andy be willing to supply one with no crew? This way the foot figures already released can be used in tandem
as getting out of the vehicle to fight on foot. Different identification marking would also help to sell multiples.

Not that i will claim to be a WWII USMC expert..(I don"t even collect the series...space and funds!!) I do have an eye for details and i also collect original WWII items. I suppose it all comes down to the question of how much leeway you will allow yourself in your diorama presentations.
The USMC HBT shirt is really a very different style to the US. Army version, but that is not the biggest problem...The iconic silhouett of a Marine in combat is very, very different to that of a G.I. in action in Europe. The pants in or out the gaitors is not the problem, it"s just the shirt and the
sloppy, hanging half open way the Marines wore it...(and who could blame them with the sticky tropical heat they had to fight in) the helmets can always be painted over, no big deal!!.
As i said it"s your collection and if you can accept the imperfections in the details then Go for it..!!!!!!.

Hi, Steve,
First off, I also want to state that I am in NO WAY an expert on WWII USMC Pacific uniforms, but I will have to respectfully disagree with you on the shirt question. Below is just one search which shows USMC during WWII.

https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=US+Marines+WW2+in+Color&FORM=RESTAB

https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=US+Marines+WW2+Okinawa&FORM=IRIBIP

I did multiple searches and discovered that the ragtag appearance was only true on a small percentage of images.

In addition I have multiple WWII Pacific documentaries (+/- 17 DVDs) that are live footage of the Marines in action, sitting, marching and so forth. There dress manner is much more aligned to what K&C has portrayed than the totally disheveled look you propose.

Two of my uncles were Marines and "THANKFULLY" I was able to rescue their WWII photo albums before they hit the recycle bins.{sm2}
Once again, there was very little sign of "sloppy, hanging uniforms."

While I agree that there were some cases after long days (and nights) of fighting, as well as the terrible conditions of the jungle or island heat and humidity, there was no breakdown in dress.

This is an interesting topic and would like to hear others join in and tell us what they think.

Fellas,Jarheads who hit the beach looked pretty strac. As a grunt survived, the 'dress code 'slacked off quite a bit. RVN '68 ,all that was required with
3rd Mar Div was a clean weapon,helmet & flak jacket,the rest was up to you.WW2 Marine's BDUs were differing sets/hues of HBT,Camo tops,Camo bottoms,
helmets with camo covers loose/hanging off the back(sun& bug screen),some helmets with no cover at all(***-wype?)(bandage?)(choice?)(QM SNAFU?).
Marines hated leggings. Most trou hung loose as luck/(skill?) carried you through.White t-shirts early ..green 1944+.Need K-Bars on these figures fer
cryin'out loud.Rifle grenadiers as well..and 60mm mortar teams and.........Have a great day!
