Just saw they had one, anyone know anything about it?
A heads-up on Facebook, there's a trojan making the rounds via Facebook, and I don't think McAfee or Norton have resolved it yet.
It's a piece of malware that installs an executable, which, when it runs, takes over your browser session and displays a screen that looks like most anti-virus packages' main screen. It shows counts of viruses, trojans, worms, etc, then it prompts the user that his anti-virus software is outdated and he needs to upgrade. The page and the popups are dummies; behind the scenes, the trojan has already created files and starts spamming the people in your Facebook lists and address books. The emails look OK, with the appropriate subject line text for an email you would otherwise create from your Facebook page. The email may contain links to other legitimate sites, like YouTube.
You might see this web address in the title of the browser, when the trojan takes it over: www.note4scan.com. That is a valid website, but Norton and others have issued warnings not to navigate there, because of the downloads that will occur.
I got hit with it on the 1st, and at that time, though McAfee and Norton had identified the malware, but they categorized it as a low threat. So, neither had completed any research, and there were no updates to their respective applications. I removed the files and cleaned my registry manually.
I heard from people here at work over the last couple of days, all Facebook users, that they're getting spammed, and it looks like the trojan is making the rounds.
So, make sure your antivirus software is up to date, and don't open any emails unless you're sure it's something legitimate.
